How do you think a nuclear powered ship, sub or power station works??? A nuclear reactor doesn’t generate electricity directly, it generates heat, enormous amounts of heat, which is controlled, stopping the core melting down, by water passing through channels in the core. That water then turns to steam and is used to boil water in a second system. Steam in the second system is then used to spin steam turbines which THEN generates the electricity. How a ship moves, depends on whether the ships props are electrically driven by motors or by the steam turbines themselves. Basically, the nuclear reactor is only there to provide the heat necessary to make steam, instead of burning coal, oil, gas or wood.
