The runner ran outside of the running lane forcing contact with the first basemen. It was the correct call, if he stayed in the running lane he likely doesn't make contact with the first basemen. This is coming from a Vandy fan with no bias in this game.

How exactly was it bad? He had both feet inside the line as he ran into the bag and he was in the way of the throw. Straight out of the rule book, interference on the batter-runner. What should he have done? Stayed outside the line. Then he would’ve been safe no matter what.

@@JCB884 Respectfully: my you speak authoritatively and with great certitude for someone who doesn’t know his ass from his elbow. Rule 5.9 (a) (11). In that situation, the runner MUST remain in the runner’s lane. The Maryland runner was out of the runner’s lane and was between the pitcher and first baseman. The first baseman has the right to stand on the bag to catch the ball and that's obvious. He was inside of the chalk line to receive the ball. The baserunner didn't even use the running lane. He was running inside of the chalk line. The call was correct based on the rules of the running lane and placement of the runner and first baseman. The runner turning his body just before impact I'm sure was used against him in the replay to prove the flagrancy of the contact with no attempt to get in the running lane.
