I've done this for the past 3 days now and I've seen: 1. How bad my line control actually is :( 2. How much progress even a few days can make! Actually great routine! I'm planning to do this for a week and then see how my drawings turn out! :) (I'll also do this for future sessions aswell^^) I changed the last exercise to be curves with tapered lines to train that for a bit. Amazing tip, thx! :)

@@g-me2504 I'm on and off doing it, but line Control definitely helps me reduce the chicken scratching I did prior. It's a long process though. It's also counter intuitive: The slower, but more confidently you draw your lines, the faster you actually finish the drawing. Instead of doing small fast strokes all the time and going back and forth and erasing etc all the time. Would recommend.

you can also practice these towards the opposite side of your normal hand movement. like if you draw left to right, try drawing right to left. Also, about tracing anatomy. Yeah, sure, you might learn less things if you trace the skeleton or muscle picture you pulled up from pinterest, but if you've already learned the muscles and form, you can trace them over a figure. drawing the muscles or bones on the skin to figure out how they are placed within the figure. That's more useful, I think.

Been doing it for over a week now and holy smokes it definitely helps a lot. I felt my linework was cheap before doing this exercise but now I started to see improvement in my linework and steadiness while drawing. While I do think the growth I achieved in just one week of doing this is amazing I definitely intend to keep this in my daily routine! I know this video's about a couple months old, but I'm glad I got around to watching it in full. This actually cleared up a lot of questions that I've had since watching your video on line quality and practicing it myself. Things like whether I should be focusing more on quality or quantity, exactly how slow I should be going, whether or not I should try this with the tripod grip at all - all addressed. It's sometimes tough to keep going if you're unsure if your efforts are actually paying off, so it's great to see that the practice I have been doing - which still isn't enough - hasn't been in vain. Thanks for sharing your practicing techniques! I'll also download the worksheets, even though I have a couple of similar ones I've been using to this point. Especially when it comes to curved lines, the variety of lines one can practice helps!

Take inspiration from irl armors. Not like draw a bunch of irl armors and combine them into what you like. Look at irl armor and try to understand the reason behind the design then try to incorporate the same philosophies into your own armor. For poses just study and keep in mind the limitations armor may bring to maneuverability. Along side also understanding the philosophies behind certain poses.

For traditional folks, if you can't print the sheets for whatever reason, you can use a ruler or something else straight to (lightly) get straight lines and then trace them. I do have a question, however: for the circles, is it important to trace perfect circles and ovals? The point of this exercise is control, right? Not necessarily drawing perfect circles? Could I just make some random curves lightly and trace them with control?

I disagree with going slowly. If I go too slowly, the friction between my hand and tablet results in an inconsistent speed and bumpier lines. It's like hard braking in a car.

Which drawing tablet do you use? ❤
@sleepycritical69508 ай бұрын
Honestly I don’t think it matters much. It depends on the person and is a very individual choice. Some people can use those non screen tablets, while some use tablets with screens. The rule of thumb with everything is, “if it works well, then it doesn’t matter”. It will be kinda silly buying an expensive state of the art top of the line tablet and finding out it just doesn’t work for you ergonomically. Other times maybe you need the expensive stuff because it just works. You want a tablet that would closely approximate your usual workflow on paper for example, the Cintiq 24” works for me cos I always draw on large pieces of drawing paper, so it works for me. Before that I had to struggle with cheap non screen tablets from Wacom, but I didn’t have the hand eye coordination for that.

@excaliblader4 ай бұрын
I recently made a short about this, kzbin.infoi2enCwjm4uA. The smoothness of the line isn't important, what's important is drawing with correct trajectory and doing these exercises slowly will give you the control to do that

Tip that works for me: I don't use a glove at all anymore, mainly for this reason. My solution is using something thick, like a small mouse pad to put your hand on instead. It glides against the smooth surface of the screen, without getting stuck.
