I have kept devils, dovii, umbee, red terrors, buttikoferi and jaguars but you can't find them hardly anywhere anymore. From my experience a red devil is probably just as aggressive or nasty as the dovii it just doesn't seem to get as big. Pound for pound though I don't know who is the meanest on this list because I've never seen many of these in stores. I did manage to have a breeding pair of dovii one time and they basically destroyed everything else in the tank but convicts. I know those fish are a dime a dozen but they are very fun to watch and are survivors.

I would pick the red devil above midas cichlid and below the trimac cichlid cuz I owned nearly every fish except nandopsis and umbee. These are nasty and really aggressive cichlids no problem attacking and killing bigger fish than themself.

For me aggressive so far is the Red Devil and the buttikoferi or zebra tilapia.The other advantage of other cichlids like the jaguar and dovii is they have sharp teeth like the teeth of snakehead that's why they tolerate other species aggresiveness.

Red Devil's are underrated when it comes to aggression. I had one years ago and you couldn't put anything in the tank with it not even an aquarium net. Destroyed everything that went in the tank until it finally lost to a Jag. Took a few losses then eventually killed the Jag off. Finally got another Red Devil that took its throne

i've had RTM ( number 12 ) and a flowerhorn, to be fair the flowerhorn wasnt that big and might've been a female ( pretty small kok ) , but the parachromis was way worse i had a pair but no breeding , i put down a african snakehead about 8 inches , the pair was about 6.5 inch female and 11 inch male , it literally took about 5 seconds before they started biting the channa , it didnt even make it to the bottom of the tank :/ i never experienced this with a flowerhorn , some chasing sure but not just sitting there and bite after bite , also my flowerhorn would mostly ignore catfish/pleco/channa/bichir looking fish

I have had most of these over a long period of time and although personality of the fish plays a role my Flowerhorns and Jags always had nasty attitudes. I had Salvini which were not on the list but they are absolutely wicked for their size.

I've kept flower horns. I think that the rose queen cichlid should be on this list. I like where you put the flower horn considering that mine killed 7 cichlids including my larger Texas cichlid, and my Dempsey. Mine also killed my beautiful Salvinni/blood parrot hybrid which was my future breeder. This set me back a years worth of work. Especially considering how small the flower horn was. It was under 4 inches and most of the other fish were at least 6 inches.

My top 10 would be : 1) buttikoferi -evil,strong,fast and doesn’t give a shit about taking on fish twice their size. 2)dovii-nothing can really stand up to a fully grown dovii. They’re fast,strong and they’re called wolf cichlids for a reason. 3) Istlanum/grammodes-they’re called Mini Umbee and Mini dovii respectively for a reason. 4) Red tiger motaguense-These guys love challenging fish for dominance. Very smart too, they’ll sit and wait until the right time to strike. Nasty set of teeth. Very underrated in aggression. 5) Chanchos/Trimacs- absolute tanks of the cichlid world. Nothing can really beat a 14+inch male trimac, except maybe an 18 inch Chancho, basically Trimacs on steroids. 6) Red devil- the famous Liabatus, have tons of heart and speed. Relentless in their attacks. 7)Beani/umbee- Beani are slightly overrated in aggression, it’s more so intraspecific aggression than interspecific aggression. Umbees are large and strong but not persistent imo. If they lose a fight they won’t bother a fish again 8)Jaguar cichlids- highly territorial. They’ve got heart, speed, size and strength 9) midas cichlids-bulkier and more heavily built than a red devil but not as aggressive. Most fish will regret picking a fight with a midas though. 10) festae- large,strong and territorial.

My 3 favorites are festae,butticoferi and midas!!I had 2 midas more than 10 years ago and I had to give them away,the one was so agressive that couldn't tolerate anything without attacking.But the worst one was a festae that remind me of piranhas!!!!He killed everything in the tank and I thought the kills were from more than one but The Predator was that one that grew very big too in 3 months from 4 centimetres to 12 or so!!!Beautiful fish but you can't keep a fish in a tank,you need more to enjoy!!Now I have a festae and it is completely inoffensive,I bought it 3 centemetres long and after 3 months grew only 1 centimetre I think in a cichlid tank and gets chased by others easily!!!It has to do with the fish sometimes too!!

Nastiest fish out of those is Grammodes and Dovii, the rest are nothing compared to these two. The list is awesome bro, beani are more aggressive than haitiensis. Flowerhorn is basically a Trimac, don't know why its on the list. Umbee are overheard, they're only on the list because of their size.

The Reddevil midas black Nasty and some flowerhorn are pound for pound the strongest, and just to let you know they are aggressive from fry to mature. the will wreck and dovii and umbee these two breeds need to mature before even getting aggressive more so the umbee. The Black Nasty should be the first. But your illustrations of the different breeds are excellent.

Jaguar cichlid should be first one I had one cub of that specie, I brought back to the shop for free Killed some of my fishes and was willing to kill all... absurd cause the tank was not overstocked... was a 100 gallon and all the fishes were cichlids into the range 6"-8"

Jaguars are definitely not number 1, a big male Jag is up there for sure, maybe breaking into the top 5 but doubt he’d be top 3 in terms of pure aggression. My 12 inch female Butti made my 10 inch male Jag look like a guppy lol. I don’t mean in a fight, just in terms of pure aggression, strength and power. I’d rather take a bite from a big male Jaguar over a Buttikoferi of similar size.

The level of aggression has nothing to do with whether or not it can kill another fish. It's simply how aggressive the fish is. An adult jag most certainly could kill an adult flowerhorn more often than not. The thing is.. that Jag would back down from a big dovii way faster than most flowerhorns. Flowerhorn is arguably the most aggressive on this list. May not be as big as other cichlids, but its balls are bigger.

Exactly. Flowerhorns are way more aggressive than Jaguars. I actually find Jaguars to be bictches who act tough but can't back it up. I've kept two Jaguars and I have one right now. Jaguars only pick on fish that are smaller than them that they presume are weaker. My Flowerhorn gave me scars on my hand from him attacking my hand when I try to clean the tank. My Jaguar only goes after smaller, weaker fish. My Jaguars wouldn't dare challenge a fish bigger than themselves. My Flowerhorn is all alone, simply because he's literally bitten chunks out of any fish I have ever kept with him. Flowerhorns have nasty teeth and are probably the most aggressive cichlid, they just don't grow as big as say a Dovii so they don't get the credit.

I am going to buy a massive aquarium and spend loads of money on cichlids just for this very purpose of feeding them different live fishys and fighting them.. It's good entertainment.

my redhead cichlid would beat almost all the fish on this list if they were same size (13inches) and before I got him he dominated a 200gallon aquarium with: 11" Male jaguar cichlid 6" Male jaguar cichlid 9" Female jaguar cichlid 12" Female Oscar 8" Male parrot cichlid 6" Male acquidens sp. 5" Female black belt cichlid and lots of synodontis and a shovelnose catfish

I've had arautus cichlid dominate several of the fish on that list he was a juvenile bit very aggressive and skilled fighter
