One thing that many poketubers and even you in this video get wrong is that the word for evil in Japanese doesn’t have the exact same meaning as it does in English. It doesn’t mean that all dark types inherently evil creatures, just that they harness some sort of dark energy, like the dark spells in fire emblem. It was translated as dark because it fits the cultural perception of English speakers better.

Also, Gardevoir's Japanese name is "sānaito", or "sir knight". Meaning its species isn't strictly female. It's 'dress' is most likely meant to be like a flowing cloak of some kind. I like that they change the pronunciation from Are-see-us to Are-kay-us, because it makes the name sound like a mix of Archaic and Chaos. Arceus is the god of pokemon, born before the universe and it controlled chaos and used it to form order. I also feel like Suicune might still be a dog. Dogs and canids have noticeably longer snouts that felids and suicunes snout looks too long to be a cat in my opinion. Then again, I also think mew looks way more like a mouse than a cat and everyone else says I'm wrong so... The Japanese word for evil doesn't mean what you would expect. Rather than meaning bad, it just means something that has something dark about it. That's why it became dark type when being translated to English to better suit what it means.

I’ve literally had every single one of these arguments more than once. The most frequent being the pseudo-legendary misconception, as my best friend regularly assumes and classifies overly strong Pokémon or simply his favorite as such, regardless of the qualifications. That and because of Arcanine being the “legendary” Pokémon 🙄

You can't actually have a misconception about a fan term. You don't own it. Nobody does. A pseudo-legendary can be different to you than another person. The only thing that isn't really debatable is what makes a legendary, as they are very clearly defined in almost all cases, and what makes a mythical. You can certainly argue that any Pokemon under the base stat total doesn't count, because I don't really know *anyone* who would argue that a 500 base stat total Pokemon would count as a pseudo-legendary unless they were heavily biased to include a favorite of theirs, but why the *hell* would the word "pseudo-legendary" not apply to a Pokemon that can beat the ever living shit out of other pseudo-legendaries by having stronger stats? Having "exactly" 600 points is an absurd prerequisite, because anyone that exceeds that point total would arguably be more legendary than those that don't. Even with annoying abilities like Truant.

I really don't get the antimatter analogy. Yes matter and antimatter collude and annihilate each other, but they are also both made from light. The only difference is they have opposite charges, so an antiproton has -1 relative charge. Otherwise they act the same and would be affected by gravity just the same, so the distortion world wouldn't work. I know it is metaphorical, but the metaphor doesn't work, and shows a lack of understanding into the properties of antimatter.

It's amazing how quickly people forgot that Gardevoir can be male. In Pokemon Emerald, Wally catches a Ralts (which is always male, if I remember) which is battled later as a _male_ Gardevoir. Only Gallade is gender-exclusive (Dawn Stone on a male Kirlia). There are quite a few other Pokemon that have feminine appearances, but can be either gender, such as Lopunny and Mismagius, and for some reason _no one_ mistakes them as female only.

I consider all Pokemon games as canon, but a canon unto themselves.
