It isn't actually armor, it's a seal of binding to keep him still, as you can see this same armor rusted in the Hollow Knight fight before you break the sealed chains. It isn't that the armor is too heavy, it just isn't meant for anything besides show. That's why the statue in the city has him wearing this armor.

1:02 to 1:27 is probably my favorite part of any soundtrack in this game. It reminds you that you're not fighting against a random infected creature, or a great showman. You're fighting against the hero of Hollownest in their prime. The most powerful being in Hollownest, the savior of a kingdom. The entire song is amazing, but this section is the best.

Meeting the Pure Vessel only makes the fight with the Hollow Knight sadder, because it was in such a good state, the champion of Hallownest. Seeing how powerful and regal it used to be…only to be forced to contain the infection and be reduced to the state we see in the Temple of the Black Egg.

I absolutely love the feel of this boss. You have more than likely already beaten the game and have fought the Hollow Knight, seeing him in his weakened, infected form. You've heard all these thinks about it and have seen the statue in the City of Tears, yet in the present it's missing an arm and containing the Radiance, plus however long it's been chained up for. Now you've worked your way up the fourth Pantheon and have seen all of these other characters you've met and fought them in their primes, and have been told that this "Attunement" that the Godseekers perform restore the gods to their primes. Fearing what could be at the end of this seemingly final Pantheon, noticing the familiar scenery in the room before the new Pantheon boss. With a breath you step through the door and see it. The Hollow Knight, in shimmering white armor, standing there in it's prime. Surprised, you stare at the screen, not knowing what will happen next. Then, it shatters it's armor, turning around to reveal itself with an angelic roar and a name appearing on the top of the screen. "Pure Vessel"

I'm writing a discussion post for colledge about a piece of art that reflects both Dionysian themes (like tragety) and Apollonian themes (like order) so heres my post on the Pure Vessel theme in case anyone cared. A piece of music that bring about both Dionysian and Apollonian aspects is the Pure Vessel theme from the game Hollow Knight, composed by Christopher Larkin. The song plays during a fight between the player and a creature known as the Pure Vessel. Its sounds like an eloquent and almost peaceful orchestral song that sounds something more akin to something you would hear in a church or quire. The Pure Vessel's song could symbolize the ideal state the Pure Vessel was supposed to be in to achieve it's goals. However, this is a stark difference to the current state of the Pure Vessel's state in the present time in the game. During the present time of the game, he as failed to living up to the ideal state he needed to be. He is now a broken shadow of its former self, wasting away to the plague that is spreading throughout his kingdom. The Pure Vessel's theme is able to reflect the ideal form the kingdom needed and reminds us of the broken, sorry state he now is.

i don't know about y'all, but i honestly love this fight. sure, it took me hours to beat, but when i beat it it was amazing. i had been doing non-stop attempts for about 3 hours at that point, and in my final attempt, something in me just snapped. all that built up muscle memory just guided me through the fight, only slipping up and letting me take damage once i saw the void tendrils attack and started getting more aggressive. that fight lasted only about a minute. i don't know what made me suddenly play like a pro for a moment, or how i managed to kill them so fast, but the adrenaline rush and the shock and awe from the person watching me practice for the last couple hours was like nothing else.

I almost did a no-hit run on the Ascended version... and then took over an hour to reproduce anything that clean on the Radiant version. Of course! I quickly noticed that you could unleash an impressive SEVENTEEN nail strikes as you patiently (?) wait for the introduction "scream" and the next attempt to finally begin x)

This theme is part of why pure vessel is quite possibly my favorite boss in the game. This is one of the toughest fights you've faced, no matter where you fight it your nerves are on edge. And yet the music is not big and bombastic. It's somber and introspective. It makes you pause to remember the Hollow Knight's journey, how it has fallen from this grace, and wonder what it could have been were it not for the pale king's plan. That's the true brilliance of this game, that it knows what it wants you to feel and it knows how to make you feel it. By all means this track should not work for this frantic, fast paced fight. But it does because it knows that the gameplay speaks for itself, and the music reminds you that even in this realm of gods and glory this is a tragic tale.

I really love this version of the hollow knights battle music because in sealed it makes the battle feel tragic, which it is, but this theme is so much more minimal compared that it feels slow and empty and the added vocals makes it feels almost regal or like he’s trying to fulfilling some duty. And then there’s the beginning of the fight itself where he does the roar but no sound comes out.
