Don’t stare: it’s natural to look away occasionally when talking to someone- you don’t have to maintain eye contact throughout the whole interaction 2. relax your body: this can really help prevent distractions and nervousness which can lead to looking away 3. read the mood: If the other person is bad with eye contact (i.e. looking away often, avoiding direct eye contact completely) then you can look away too. passively survey you surroundings instead, while occasionally looking back to remind the person that you are still engaged in the conversation. this can really help someone feel better and more comfortable 4. public interactions: if you’re too nervous to look a cashier or waiter in the eye, try looking at something related to what you’re talking about- if you’re about to order food, look at the menu, if you’re checking out look through your purse or focus on paying. Remember to make eye contact when saying thank you, though- helps you portray how genuine you are Anyway, i hope these help! i was diagnosed at the age of 6ish and i NEVER made eye contact until i was around 9 or 10. like ever. Only briefly. I basically taught myself how to maintain eye contact while avoiding anxiety attacks. I can now order food on my own, make doctor’s appointment, and even ask questions in the middle of a store (which i never dreamed of doing) So yeah. enjoy!
