15: Risks of Medication for an Enlarged Prostate - Peter Walter, MD

We have a board-certified urologist, Dr. Peter Walter, joining us for today’s episode of the Prostate Health Podcast, and we will be focusing on medication. We will be discussing the possible dangers of taking too many medications, and we will also talk about how urologists are assisting in the shift towards getting men off the medication they’re taking for an enlarged prostate, and in some instances, even helping them avoid medication completely. Dr. Walter continues to be a visionary in the treatment of an enlarged prostate and he remains integral in the new paradigm shift in how these men are treated. He is a graduate of the State University of New York, at Buffalo School of Medicine, and he completed his general surgery and urologic training at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He is currently practicing in Jamestown, New York. Dr. Walter was one of the first eight urologists in the US to be designated as a UroLift Center of Excellence. Good discussion. Urinary retention was mentioned, but not elaborated upon. As a now 13-year survivor of extreme retention - 8 liters - I would have liked to hear some discussion of the long term consequences and implications for bladder failure. BTW, I had a PVP procedure in Sept. 2007.
