A day before docking at a island. I place a complimentary room service for the morning of, of a deli meat sandwich with condiments and juices. I bring sandwich bags with me and a to go mug if I didn’t purchase a drink package and I make my lunch for my day out on land. I bring me a lightweight packable backpack for my food, light jacket if needed and a beach towel if needed to keep my hands free and don’t take up space when not in use.

I'm a firm believer in the magnets. Dollar Tree sells some really good ones with clips attached. Even better for holding up bathing suits is their over the door hanger. It easily slips over the doors to the closet or cabinetry and has two tines that stick out. Ask the stateroom attendant for some extra hangers and you have a heavy duty holder for hats, bathing suits, etc.

Good tip about checking your cruise price before final payment. For our January 2022 cruise on Adventure of the Seas, I checked the price every time Royal Caribbean sent an email about the current offer. We were able to upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite and still pay $200 less than the Grand Suite we had booked originally.

@@choncho6112 Every time I got an email from RC about a sale or special I would do a fake booking to compare the cost to what we paid. If it was less, I would contact our travel agent & she would contact Royal to adjust the price. I think we did this 2 or 3 times before final payment. I assume you could contact Royal directly if you didn’t book through a travel agent.

I did the coolest thing on my Spectrum cruise from Shanghai to Fukuoka shortly after it launched in 2019. I got off the ship for about a half hour in Fukuoka then got back on and had the whole ship to myself. It seemed like every single one of the 5600 passengers got off, so I decided to tour the ship. One thing I'd seen was that every stairway landing on both ends of the ship had beautiful artwork on the wall - very large scale pieces - and it seemed nobody ever stopped to look at them. So I methodically walked up every stairway, stopping at every landing to admire the artwork. Then I did the same along the walls on the main decks. That actually took a couple of hours. Finally, I went up to the pool deck and noticed that the main pools and hot tubs were closed. So I told one of the crew I was really looking forward to some time in the hot tub, thinking he'd open one up for me. But he said, "Follow me" and led me to the exclusive Solarium, unlocked the magic door, and told me to play to my heart's content. I had the entire Solarium to myself. It was heavenly.

@@anitasexon4033 Hello, I did get a little lucky when Royal Caribbean has the cruise with confidence program, I was able to use that option and save on the cruise. But from what I know you can ask for a price adjustment before your last payment (I would check this). The reason I was able to get a good amount of money back was because the room was a grand suite. Also I was use a travel agent to book. I booked directly with Royal Caribbean and every time I call to get the updated price they defiantly gave me a hard time. I was able to update four different curies but any every time I had a issue. Also, if you do book directly with Royal Caribbean you will have to do the work to check and keep an eye on the pricing. It can go down and up many times if you book a long time from the date of the trip. Also, if you book via Royal Caribbean and you do call and get a price update, make sure you check the port fees. The four times I did get a price update they made a mistake on the port fee and I had to make them fix that which took a few days for them to do. Side note Alaska is great and you will love it.

Cruise hack to get your checked bags sooner: While at the port, give the bag(s) to the porter and tell him/her that you have alcohol in your luggage (even if you dont) .They will hand carry your bag past the metal detectors. There are a lot bags to be screened, so this way your bag skips the screening process and gets delivered faster...

A friend cruised after me, but before COVID, and I knew enough to giver her tips re food, she has a food allergies of common ingredients, milk, egg, soy, celiac. She wait staff themselves told her that the chefs were willing to make her anything she wanted, following her restrictions, and she never looked at a menu after. Loved all the food, and was told the staff loved working with someone who really didn't care what she ate...as long as it fit around her allergies. We grew up experimenting with cooking ourselves, amazing what one can cook/bake on a camp stove or fire with Girl Guides/Girl Scouts. When people see the milk and egg allergy often think a simple vegan diet works, nope, because those often contain soy.

You’re so right about the drink package, I can’t drink alcohol, and my husband called RCCL, they didn’t even make him feel weird, he explained that we were traveling with another couple, each couple has 1 party that doesn’t drink alcohol, as long as all four of us got A drink package we were fine. It’s funny that my brother and I are married to people that “need” to drink, coincidence? I think not 😂

Royal Caribbean wouldn't let me do the 48 hour price guarantee multiple times. 4 days before our recent cruise it dropped by about $400... we already got a $250 OBC because the price dropped a few weeks prior to the cruise. When my husband called they said that we would have an additional $150 in OBC in our account when we got on the ship. When we got on the ship they told us you get whichever price is higher so since the $250 was higher that's the amount we got... they said that we couldn't claim BOTH... needless to say we were very upset because it doesn't state that you can only do it one time

Just got off the Harmony, wish I had known about the Johnny Rockets Breakfast. It was just around the corner. Oh and Coco Cay has really good grilled hamburgers at the free buffet. But do not leave your plate alone! The birds will be on it in a second! Your vacation starts at the pier. For God's sake get a passport and get your children passports. Yes, you can sail with other documents, but it slows you and everyone behind you down. Fully complete your online check in. Upload pictures and required documents. Print every document you can, do not rely on your phone. Put your vaccination card in your passport and have your test results in hand. We want to get you from car to bar n 10 minutes, but it's up to you.

Vegans! Royal Carribean has vegan options all over the ship. Just ask!!! Even the complimentary breakfast has wheat toast, oatmeal, cereal. Plus you can get soy milk. You just have to ask for it! Also, be sure to let RCCL know you're vegan before you show up to make life easier. The vegan food isn't the best but you will eat.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It seems to depend on the waiter if they will charge you a cover charge to dine there or not. Mostly you can stop in and get just a milkshake but it depends.

I bought, and completely paid for our cruise on the Independence of the Sea in March. When you talk about repricing, you mention final payment date. Did I screw up by paying for the whole cruise, or can I possibly do the repricing hack? Also, how do I do it?

Repricing is still possible if you paid in full, but it adds a layer of complexity because Royal Caribbean has to issue refunds instead of just adjusting cruise fare price. Not the end of the world, just something else. In general, good tip is to pay it all off, but leave maybe $500 or so for price adjustments.

Really good hacks, thank you for the information. One thing I would add when you had mentioned to bring cereal boxes off the ship, is the brain and glad we are, saran wrap, tinfoil to take food with you off the ship on the porch, back to your room or home on the last day of the cruise. The cruise ship will not provide those things as people can have food spoil and I don’t want to be liable, therefore, one time I brought home a bunch of duck that was at the Buffet on the last day of the cruise or as well as a bunch of other things.

Thanks Matt for the hacks. Leaving in 3 days on Liberty and scheduled the Maya Chan beach club. I'm curious, does the ice cream hack work, someone told me since covid the ice cream machines are manned now and they limit the ice cream?

My kids took strawberry and blueberry syrup from breakfast,and made sundaes with it. Float is a good idea too.

what is the age where it's ok to let your children do their own thing without adult supervision? Is there an official policy or is it more a personal preference?
