That is pretty dumb. I will never use an IPhone but I avoid the Google playstore as much as possible. Many of their apps are neutered & don't do what the devs intended them to do & they're loaded with trackers & basically, a bunch of adware to, plus the mainstream stores are where all the viruses are. I get a kick out of seeing people get scared off by googles ominous warning about trusting the download source. LOL! I trust Happy Modder more than the Google Play Store. LOL! I've never gotten a virus from Happy Modder, but I've got plenty of them out of the Google Play Store.

Because Google has a responsibility to ensure both parties us as users and companies have some type of protections. Most of these apps make companies paid for app features useless. Google understands they also need to make these companies happy cause let's say in an overdramatic example Facebook/Instagram/Spotify and other social media apps made it so they weren't allowed on Androids people would be really pissed. (Yes most of these apps are web-based as well but I'm trying to make a simple point) Google ensures "safe" apps are only on the app store for users & Google ensures these work around aren't available to cover companies. The old trope against apple was "you don't have this app on IOS" was because apple has much tighter requirements on what they allow you to download. The best way I've always explained it is. Android gives all users access to the nuclear launch codes, if you mess up and nuke your phone that's on you. Apple pretends the nuclear launch codes don't exist.
