How ironic right? We live in an almost parrelell universe to Ancient Rome towards the end of their empire, but with more advanced technology. Always assuming that we are working towards utopia and advancing human thought, when most likely we will just invent more advanced ways to destroy ourselves. (Also ignoring the signs from nature that something is utterly and drastically wrong with how we extract resources with unclean practices). I think the root problem is that humanity allows "King Solomon" like figures to even exist in the first place. Once you have more than others, it's very hard to give it back.

This is what I thought the History Channel was supposed to be; informative and interesting. Instead... well... This is definitely interesting. When the narrator talked about the destroyed Viking fort, it instantly reminded me of a Bible story where God told the Israelites they were to utterly destroy the enemy, leave no one alive, and take none of the goods. And of course, almost everyone obeyed. Almost everyone, but.... well, I won't spoil it for anyone.

I 100% agree Andrea, only modern day peoples have the luxury of viewing our 'little friends' as pets. To be fair, my Wife and LOVE our little Max and have willingly spent way too much ensuring his good health (approx $3K on vet bills for respiratory issues) but I believe peoples of those days looked to their animals as purposeful workers and had no concern for their safety when Mount Vesuvius erupted and they fled. As many of these documentary films do, they attempt to 'romanticise' history for the sake of we viewers. Personally, because I was raised in the back country of the Ozark mountains in the late 1940's thru early 1950's working to exist left little time for frivolous luxuries like having a pet. Dogs either helped us heard cattle and sheep, hunt for food or be watch dogs. They were not pets and we did not love them so why would ancient times see them as anything other than the same.
@holyhex6520

@13:40 Ring Fort Sanby Borg ... What a lovely dark novel this tale would make ... I think revenge was the motive ... and the perpetrator was so angry, so disgusted, so deeply offended by the group that they wanted nothing to do with any material goods the group may have had ... It was a quick strike, maybe when everyone had been partying for a while and were quite unsteady due to alcohol .. in comes the group (Rivals? Members of families that had been harmed by these people?) fully armed in battle gear and the killing is swiftly accomplished ... They then disappear into the night and the carnage is left to tell the world that an eye for an eye has been exacted .. Shakespeare would have loved such a story

It is easy to see the continental shelves and other low areas between archipelagos are likely hiding FAR more earlier civilizations than have yet been found. Good point, if I remember correctly since the last glacial maximum we have lost access to about 10 Million Square Miles of prime coastal real estate around the globe. It's a no brainier to do the math, that's where early man would have thrived and evolved. Most of the roughly 400' rise in Ocean levels has happened in just the last 14,000 years or so go after being kicked off by the Meltwater Pulse 1A event. That process has repeated itself 4 times over the last 400k years and since we have been around for most of that time a lot of possibilities exist .

Of the many eruptions of Mount Vesuvius, a major stratovolcano in southern Italy, the most famous is its eruption in 79 AD, which was one of the deadliest in European history,,,Neapolis (Greek: Νεάπολις) meaning "New City", was an ancient city of Apulia, Italy, not mentioned by any ancient writer, but the existence of which is attested by its coins. There seems good reason to place it at Polignano a Mare, between Barium (modern Bari) and Egnatia (near modern Fasano), where numerous relics of antiquity have been discovered.

Well it would be effective if fido (or fidos) blocked the only way(s) in . Many buildings i have seen in Pompeii have these walled fronts with one relative small entrance unto a small square where the main building was, that also had only one entrance into the main building . Thieves needed to brake down the doors and pass a guarddog twice before entering the main building.

There were no banks in Rome because you got your money from your Patron, employer, business or master. You kept your money hidden in your home or buried it somewhere. And if you wanted to borrow money, you were at the mercy of who ever you borrowed it from. That is why modern banking and laws against abuses were developed.

All that did was create a level of financial abuse only a slick government protected organization can accomplish. As far as I recall, only Sweden prosecuted their criminal bankers when they imploded the economy in 2008. Around the world, the rest made out like true bandits, destroying millions of lives.

excellent -thank you. so many things i did not know. i really wonder why so many executions were buried and probably took place at/or in bogs. normal people were buried on the land or cremated. but the bog people all show signs of being slaughtered. the bogs maybe being such “yucky” places were thought that those buried there would suffer. it sure is interesting. considering the gladiators fought to the death and now we have boxing (which ain’t pretty itself), besides the samurai who were soldiers, did the sumo wrestlers start out fighting to the death, also? what is that history?

In the upcoming season trailers are always the same thing, "a discovery of the century". Only for it to be something so small and insignificant to finding the treasure. It just something related to something entirely different . "Talking about beating a dead horse", this dead horse has been dead, done, finished after season two.
