15 Sure Signs Your Shih Tzu Hates You But You Don't Know

You hate to think that your Shih tzu isn’t happy with you or doesn’t really like you, but it can happen.
And they do give you signs that something is off.
If you pick up on several of these signs you might want to consider changing your behavior instead of assuming it is your dog’s behavior
that needs to change.

​@sharonderuyter1708 yes, i think all dog breeds should have another dog companion to fill in the gaps that a human can not provide. I have a Shih Tzu and a Japanese Chin that are only 3 weeks apart in age that i got on the same day.

I dearly miss our family Shih Tzu, Toby, who we had for 12 years until he passed away peacefully in his sleep last December 2022. He was the sweetest, most loving fur baby we had. ❤ He was loved by us from beginning to end and was the proof that Shih Tzus are the best. 🐶

My year old female doesn't like being petted much, unless it is her idea, then she'll jump up next to you and cuddle. This is her overall personality and always has been her mother is the same way. Now her 6 month old brother from a different litter is the opposite, he loves to cuddle but is sometimes too energetic to lay still for long, but he comes back for more after he runs around for a while. My female also loves to sit and just stare at you, this is common with Shih Tzus and nobody knows why but it isn't aggression or because she "hates" you. The growling and/or snapping at you I agree is not a good sign, but if they mouth or accidentally nip you when excited, especially puppies, it doesn't mean they are mad or hate you, they investigate everything with their mouths. Also, not All Shih Tzus want to be lap dogs, they have too much energy for that. I think ths best advice is just to learn your dog's personality, quirks and body language because like people, they are all different. I just didn't like this 'your dog hates you" message.

My ShihTzu is a extremely excellent well behaved has never growed at me or anyone else. He is a diabetic medical alert service dog. He goes everywhere with me.

I had to 😂😅laugh at the picture of a bearded collie under the caption (how to tell if your Shihtzu hates you. I have had 5 Shihtzuhs in my life and they were the best dogs ever! So sweet, funny, loving and clean. My last little girl was only 13 and had to put her down as she had cutaneous lymphoma and was misdiagnosed for over 3 months. 😢 I miss her terribly bad. She was the sweetest dog ever and beautiful!

I have a male shih tzu puppy now 10.5 mths old. He is adorable and full of life. Potty training is something you need to work hard on however by six mths he was totally house trained. He loves people and loves meeting other dogs when we walk him in our local parks and neighborhood. We had a maltese, a bischon poo and now our Noah shih tzu. He is all white and looks just like a maltese but has the u derbite of a Shih tzu....we adore him❤❤❤ We were blessed to have found him after our Bischon passed last July.

My shihtzu has a underbite and looks like she’s giving us a cheesey grin 😁. She’s a little sad because she’s lost her beagle friend and she’s not fixed for safety reasons and gets a little sad after being in heat. She’s my sweet little girl and we love her. I do think she’s a little sad so I am trying to give her extra attention. ❤

My mums has anxiety and dementia and he growls at her picture of elvis. However he does growl if you try and get in the bed and he doesnt want to even move an inch. 😂they are lovely companions and he was only like that due to dementia. But he doesnt like elvis 😂

No my Shih Tzu has non of these issues. She loves me so much. They are incredible dogs that are very loyal and loving. If you ignore them and treat them bad they can get depression. Plus they have very bad eating habits. Some days they wont eat. Some days they want to eat everything. They act like they are a princess and want to be treated like one. They are very stubborn at times. The don't like to eat the same thing twice in a roll. You have to change up there food in 3 days. They can be very strange indeed. I need to find a male to breed my Shih Tzu. She is going on 3 years old and she is showing us that she will be a great mother. I just don't know how to find another breader.

I am not an expert on the subject, but dogs hump other dogs, and people, to let you know that they’re the boss. My female Shih Tzu always humped her sister when we had company. She was the boss!!! (In her mind😂🤣)

Jumping is a display of dominance, male/female alike. My Male started that around 6 months. I pushed him off, told my NO DIRTY, he stopped after a while.

Shih Tzus are still closely related to wolves - if you stand up to them w/o fear, they will respect you. This piss ant video does nothing to make rules for shih-tzus, instead it make rules for the owners.
