With the LeMatt revolver, you can kill a bear or grizzly with less than 6 shots, or a good and old mohawk. Lesser calibers usually give more loot. Shotguns are great if you are caught by surprise and just want to survive. Especially if it's a cougar or bobcat.

The cougars, yes. They weren't much trouble until I went looking for the plane glider inventor's red sage. Then I discovered how much cougars love the Fort Mercer area. Fortunately, even though it looked like dying had cost me all of my flowers, they really just changed their place on my provisions list. Great advices here. I didn't realize I needed to upgrade my campsite as an ability. Hell, I hardly set foot in a general store, and didn't even notice the gun stores until I was most of the way through the game. Like almost until Blackwater.

However I've killed my horses a bunch of times and as long as I have the deed they always respawn. I’m in the middle of playing the second one and I just got this one on switch today and it’s so different than the second one first of all everything so much more expensive you can bond with your horse. Your horse doesn’t really lose stamina not too quickly, but you do and then you get thrown off, which really sucks. You don’t get everything at the beginning like you didn’t the second one and when you loop people, yeah you get ammo, which is pretty cool and cash I guess but you don’t get like Jules like you did in the second one it’s definitely something I’m gonna have to get used to.

Normal horses aren't inventory items. They are called while whistling and if they die you're out of luck.

You have to tame a horse in the wild. Then go and buy a horse deed at the General Store as soon as possible, because if the tamed horse dies before you buy the deed the current breed you have will respawn. However if you have tamed your desired horse if choice, and your horse dies you can use the deed and it will respawn. The fastest horse in RDR1 is the Hungarian Half Bred. 🐎
