I've worked in retail for over 30 years and pricing is mainly what the market will tolerate. When we all do these things listed, and drop purchasing these products and services, the remaining items in our budget will go up in price to absorb those spare dollars. Because they can. Ever notice when you cut back you find in a short time that those 'saved' extra dollars are being absorbed by something already in your budget? That is NOT by accident, my friend......

I reduced my cable to Basic. A month later it was increased $30. The following month I reduced it to the Entertainment package. I told cable one more increase and the antenna goes back on the roof!😊

We cut our cable years ago, due to ever increasing fees and mostly because of the volume of commercials vs. actual programs. Most of the shows were mind-numbing crap anyway. Never really missed it.

I haven't been indulging in most of these, but I was taking my dog to the groomer once a month to get her nails dremeled. This cost about $21 per visit. A few months ago, I investigated getting my own Dremel tool for dog nails and found that it would cost me the same as 2 visits. So, I got one and watched several KZbin videos on how to do this at home. So, that's what I do now.

At 76 yrs old I have cut 15 for 15 on the list. I hardly miss any of it. I either never spent on some of those items or have cut back on those I do use. When my 25yr old car died I didn't replace it. I now use Uber or Lyft for infrequent appointments or the few things I cannot get delivered. Insurance and car financing are outrageously overpriced for someone who only needs to drive 2 hrs on 1 day a week. I instead put all that money into Savings and it's building fast. I do splurge on good healthy fresh food, but not Organic. Thank goodness I bought my Small Condo 40yrs ago, best decision I ever made.

We have cut way back on fast food which was getting more expensive. If I want a hot meal for lunch or sometimes dinner,I head over to my local supermarket deli and get their fried chicken breast and 2 wings with potato or macaroni salad. This is around 6 or 7 dollars.

As winter now approaches, still trying to find ways to cut back, wear sweaters in house, keep that furnace off as long as you can, using electric fireplace to heat front room when I'm in there, open all window coverings for light to keep lights off. Go out thru attached garage door instead of front door to keep heat in.Use cold water wash for clothes, keep showers to a minimum time. It is now very noticeable when going to resale stores how people are buying used clothing.

I don't understand this video or other s like it. Here in north Texas, the houses that sell for $450K to $750K on up, are selling as fast as they can be built. In every previous small town, every previous cotton field, there's been thousands of new houses come in. Entire 14 street neighborhoods have sprung up overnight. My neighbors, he's a USDA poultry inspector, she's an administrative nurse. They have 3 kids, one on college. They have a 2900 sq ft house with solar. Just bought a new electric car. They have a lakeside cottage. They eat out every day and go on expensive vacations left and right. She buys $2200 Gucci handbags. How can you say America is struggling to get by in the direst of financial straits?

One big one you missed is cutting out going to professional sports stadiums or ball parks. Bleacher seats are about $100 a ticket or more. Better seats are a lot more expensive. Went to Yankee Stadium last summer and I was shocked on how expensive it has become. $16 for one 16oz can of domestic beer! I feel for a family of 4 that want to bring their kids to a big league game. Easily a $500 day. Even minor league prices are getting out of control

I live in Australia and inflation has hit us too. Of all of these I do pay for gym membership because I know that if it’s up to me to do a workout at home it won’t happen. I’ve regularly gone to a hair salon for a colour and cut. But last couple of months I’ve dyed my hair at home. Bought a second hand car recently, no need to spend big as I normally only drive locally. Used to go overseas at least once a year but haven’t since 2020, hopefully again soon

@@cashflow68 : "Everyone is struggling." Yes, and this will get worse with time. Look at the 100's of thousands of high-tech jobs that were lost in the last year. Many of those jobs went "offshore" to other countries. That means a lot of highly trained workers will be competing for the lower paid service jobs.

Our night at the drive in or theater use to include 2 movies, a cartoon, and before most TV news the news reels. Popcorn was cheap an so where the drinks. Starbucks is also a "fond memory". Levis button sown jeans were a regular item; now, hello Wrangler. Some years ago on a public TV channel they had a environmental "guru" who claimed due to atmospheric pollution there no such thing as true organic foods. There are different levels of pollution in all our foods. And some claim that chemicals in the process make it mote to begin with. ???? Still need our land line, but will be moving it to a new provider to decrease by 70%. For 48 years of marrige my wife has always done her own hair etc, how much she saved?

More and more people in the middle class are becoming actually poor as they can no longer afford occasional luxuries as even basic essentials are starting to become too costly as their debts keep piling up while rampant inflation eats away their purchasing power. A common factor from these examples that the video provided is that when you grow poor, more and more of the stuff you do becomes homebound while you're the one doing deliveries to your own home rather than other people. The rest of economy outside of homes will stifle as people shelter in to avoid unnecessary spending. At least basic essentials providers still operate normally but the inflation hasn't been kind to them either and it is only a matter of time before their prices become too unaffordable or extortianate, either out of retailers' necessity (due to supply chain costs) or out of corporate greed. Just look at what billionaires and investment firms are doing to real estate and arable farm lands. They're buying them en masse to gain total control via monopoly. When even basic essentials fail and people leave their shelters in search of food or better shelters themselves (homeless and evicted people), revolts and anarchy will ensue. I hope it will never reach that point and that we can keep some semblance of civility while advocating for and making progress towards a change for our collective better future.

I really wish people would stop using the word free when they are talking about things like k-12. Or healtjcare being free. They are not free, they are paid communal by all to help out society and culture grow and be prosperous. We all gain when we help each other out like this. Carl Sagan used the library we won with that and many more. It wasn't free but because we decided it was in everyone's benefit we made it so people could use these with no fees at the place. That doesn't mean it is free and when they get older they will help out the next people coming up the line. These things are good but they are not FREE.
