I appreciate honesty in both play-by-play and color esp if it is radio because you rely on honesty and non biased opinions to paint the picture you can't see. ..but...if you have an issue with your home team's players performance you should be honest but down a notch because you are selling a product for the owners who pay you to do so. It's a fine line but don't bull shit me on how they look and don't get so personal attacking a guy because of a mistake he made 6 weeks earlier in a 7-2 rout. I am not a fan of the Sharks but was happy when they parted ways only to be more upset EDM hired him and the league depends on its young stars and marketability. You have to include Connor in the conversation for the best player ever, already. He's that good. How does he stack up against the competition? Gretzky is the best player in his generation, by a long shot. Great edges, amazing IQ, could score at will and was durable. The gap between him and anyone else was probably greatest during his time, until later in his career. Won 4 Cups. Orr was an amazing skater, had an unbelievable IQ for the game and put up eye-popping numbers as a rear guard while also being solid in his own zone. Head and shoulders above anyone in his generation, especially on the back end. Career cut short by injuries though, otherwise he might challenge. Won 2 Cups. Lemieux was the first player to be a jaw-dropping stickhandler and scorer. Could have been Gretzky-esque in points however could not stay healthy. One of the best ever though. Won 2 Cups. Ovechkin is the best pure goalscorer ever, however he's more of a one-dimensional talent. It's just that the one dimension is CRAZY TOWN. You could see it at the WJCs and it has continued throughout his career. The guy just scores and scores and scores. An incredible physical specimen and force, there is really no one that shows that sort of consistently insane goal-scoring capability. He is Mike Bossy or Brett Hull stuck in beast-mode for 15 seasons. Has won 1 Cup presently. Crosby is Gretzky-lite... not as much of a quality difference between him and his contemporaries as there was with Gretz, however still an incredible talent. Just as talented as Ovechkin, however spread out over multiple categories, resulting in a different, more well-rounded type of player. Moments of absolute brilliance that bring you out of your seat, and a total pleasure to watch. Injuries have hampered his career, and will affect his total scoring. Great captain though with 3 Cups in his career. Now where does McDavid fit into this mix? From a purely talent perspective, he trumps them all when you factor everything. Connor is the best skater out of all of them, is arguably the best stickhandler (Crosby and Lemieux challenge him), could score goals more than he does however is a pass-first guy (Ovechkin is the only guy that I would consider a better pure goalscorer), consistently leads or challenges for the lead in scoring, and has been fairly durable so far. It looks like Connor could have a very long career in the NHL and should have more than a few chances at a Cup, and will likely win one or two (if not more). Connor does things on the ice that you haven't seen before, and he does them often. Right now, he's missing the years and the championships to challenge Gretzky, however I think he's entirely capable of getting there. Connor is scoring at a 1.33 PPG pace presently and is just hitting his prime years. He will not outscore Gretzky, who pocketed points at a mind-boggling 1.92 PPG FOR HIS ENTIRE, LONG CAREER. He will outscore Orr (short career however 1.39 PPG) and believe he will also pass Ovie (1.11). He will challenge Crosby (1.28) and also Lemieux (1.88 however short career). I think the table is being set for McDavid (if he wins a few Cups and can stay healthy) to have a career that puts him in the Gretzky and Lemieux conversation. The best generational players that have ever graced NHL ice. A lot of years still need to go by to get there, however I think he's honestly the most dominant force in the game presently and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Hopefully the Oilers build a dynasty around him and can win the Cup at least twice. And I think McDavid can only be on their level if he wins internationally as well. I can't say if he won't ever play in the Olympics or not but Crosby has had so much NHL and international highlights alongside his 3 cups.

As an Oiler fan I am lucky enough to have watched every game hes played I think. His speed is obviously amazing. But his combined puck work and his thinking at that speed is what is really tremendous. Its all in sync at that speed. Its just incredible. I had the opportunity to see him in his rookie year against the lightening. His speed is super human, when he gets the puck, it’s like a boost of NOX! Add to that his perfect puck handling and you have the best player in the league, hands down.

The guy is incredible. Love to watch him play. But saying he "did the impossible" in most of those clips is a bit of hyperbole. Lots of guys can do the things he did- what sets him apart is that he does it more consistently. Definitely a superstar. But compare the career highlights to Pavel Datsyuk- that guy pulled off the impossible on many occasions.

Love seeing Datsyuk getting lots of love in the comments. Just one 57 year old Detroiters opinion - McDavid is the man. I think we may be seeing the most talented guy to ever play. Mario and Gretzky both were a step and a half ahead of everyone. McDavid does it with his skating and his will and hustle.

Connor mc David is such a nice guy too I worked at the Hardware Grill in Edmonton and he came in at least twice a month and always came to the back and thanked us for his meal and even gave us autographs if we asked!
