Watching a good Samus player is so amusing compared to the 90% of spammers in online
@formerctgovernordannelmall14525 жыл бұрын
By giving Samus the ability to charge in midair and by optimizing her movement just a little bit from smash 4, they actually made platforming a crucial element to getting proper setups. It feels like a slowed down version of some of the crazy shit you had to do in Super Metroid, and it feels great to have a version of Samus that feels somewhat faithful to the gameplay of the original side scrollers. I know that they began implementing this philosophy with a lot of other characters, but it feels like a particularly needed restructuring for her. Before, Samus felt *really* bounded to the zoner play style
@ShuffleAlliance4 жыл бұрын
At the 9:01 mark (slowed with the play speed of 0.25) shows Samus run forward, pivot, reverse back flip in a b-reverse charge shot to Nair, then recovery. A lot happened in that clip.

Step 15 gets me. When I'm calm and focused, I'm smarter but predictable. When I'm angry, I'm unpredictable but punishable. Gotta somehow get unpredictable while maintaining a clear focus. Thanks for the video, I was a Luigi main since Melee but REALLY didn't like him in Ultimate, the lack of traction must be partly why Dark Samus became my Ultimate main (also love them aerials).
@Dr.Jay.4 жыл бұрын
Practice breathing, sitting, and holding your controller comfortably. It should help calm you down a little when you get frustrated, emotions are tied to physical stimuli a lot more than you’d think. Having a clear head also helps you notice patterns easier and the best way to be unpredictable is to understand what is predictable (like figuring out what your opponent is predicting/waiting for). Also slip n slide weej gang 4 life lol

In my personal opinion having full charge is a great way to prep for a kill confirm even though your opponent expects it which could also change the way they play providing more windows due to their fear of dying off ledge or center if high enough percent. There's also a lot of mixups you can perform with full charge and a good handful of combos can be ended with a full charge shot and still be true. Keep in mind just a personal opinion. Great video man!

Halfway through but only got some of the advices. I barely know some terms youre using like tethering or ledge cancelling (I guess?). I dont know some terms or moves and how theyre done but Im pretty grateful for this tutorial 💪🏻
@Dr.Jay.5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’m glad! Tethering is using your grapple beam grab (tether grab) in the air to grab onto the ledge. A tether cancel is a way of letting go of the ledge while tethering in order to do some tricky movement mix ups, but it’s not that important especially not until you’ve mastered more common techniques

even considering that Wolf, Fox, and PK boys can cancel a successful down B with a roll or spotdodge?
@UmbraVivens945 жыл бұрын
i like to shoot a baby shot or homing missile from a good distance and jump, then if the opponent starts a reflector move i just zair (1st hit) into dash attack or ftilt / dtilt before the projectile even reaches them
@thanesmashmontages4125 жыл бұрын
@@UmbraVivens94 I use that as well. Another one I use (sparingly) is jumping offstage and firing a charge shot or missile low to the ground. It removes any chance you have of getting hit, and if they fuck up the timing on their reflector, it can be a game over for them. You have to know the type of player you are fighting, obviously, but I get some fast 0-deth gimps by doing this as well. It baits some players into thinking they can rush offstage after you after reflecting your projectile, but that's when you use some ledge invincibility to your advantage and punish them below or behind you for being careless.

Dark samus is a semi clone in this game. Like Ryu vs Ken where its minor differences, but they do make a difference especially in high level play. It's not like Peach and Daisy where it's literally just a 1:1 clone.

How do you reverse the charge shot? I’m having trouble getting it to work
@Dr.Jay.5 жыл бұрын
@Lagora so there’s turnaround b and b reverse. Assuming GameCube controls: Turnaround b you flick the stick in the direction opposite from where you’re facing, and immediately let go of the stick the press b. B reverse you press b, then immediately flick the stick in the direction opposite you’re facing. Wavebouncing is harder and basically is just both put together
@natelowe65555 жыл бұрын
Dr. Jay thank you! I’ll try it now
@theapistevist81285 жыл бұрын
@@natelowe6555 To wavebounce, assume you're facing left. Dash to the left, short hop, tap your analog stick to the right, then B reverse. There is a simpler way. When I tried to wavebounce, I found myself performing the inputs too slow. If you dash left, then short hop, you can leave your thumb on the analog stick and slightly tilt it to the right and then move it left as if you were rubbing your thumb from right to left. In-between the transition from right to left, tap or hold B. You won't get much momentum yet, but focus on learning the inputs before worrying about the momentum wavebouncing provides. That will come naturally. The way I explained this also works from left to right, but try practicing wavebounce in the direction that feel unnatural to you. For me, wavebouncing while facing lwft felt weird, but I got used to it since it feels easier when I face right.
@wanderingdude57305 жыл бұрын
I’m going to try this. I can B-reverse reliably, but I haven’t been able to get wavebouncing down. It is sort of my missing link. I also feel like wavelanding is underutilized by most Samus players. She has a lot of mixup options with it, and it can be a great option to avoid reflected projectiles then go for a counter attack. Also, try setting your jump to Y and shield to X on the GC controller. If you roll your thumb across the two buttons quickly enough, you can do proper wavedashes on the ground, but the timing is extremely precise.

Does holding a full charge shot really slow you down that much? Or are you saying it limits options for combos? I like to hold onto a fully charged shot because it fucks with my opponents mentality knowing I can shoot it at any time
@Dr.Jay.5 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t slow down your movement so much as limit movement options. It’s faster to both fire and follow up into a combo with not full charge also I promise not knowing or having to keep track of your charge state is harder for your opponent than the fear of seeing your blinking full charge. There are of course some very few times when 100% full charge makes sense, but it’s only if you’re not sure you can ko with 99% charge or if you don’t have time to cancel the charge before shooting
@MidwestSkyline4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this bro. You made me realize that i under utilize bombs and how critical they are to her play. I would use them mainly for movement in the air rather than the actual explosive but laying those everywhere looked so good in your video. What is wave bouncing and b reversing
@Dr.Jay.5 жыл бұрын
@wafflehouseco b reversing is like a turn around b but you press b before you flick the stick, a wavebounce is b reverse and turnaround b put together. They’re ways to shift your momentum and/or the way you’re facing by using special moves while in the air.

Thank you this video helped alot, Now I don't have to depend on spamming projectiles. But what is wave bouncing? I know it has something to do with charge shot but I Dont understand the use of it or what it does
@Dr.Jay.4 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it! Wavebounce is a combination of b reverse and turn around b, which is used to change the direction you’re facing and/or the direction of your momentum while in the air. It’s used for mind games and movement. Look up a guide on b reversing and you should get the idea pretty quickly, but wavebounce is a pretty difficult input so set that as more of a long term goal and start with b reverse. Should be like a million guides on b reverse lol

man this is why samus is low tier. straight up you have to play out of your mind and abuse every little thing about the character have amazing movement amazing neutral and amazing advantage all on a character with lack luster tilts and projectiles. you have to have like 102% effeciency with this character to even compete. compare that to like... bowser. short hop fair. side b. neutral B at ledge. F tilt. kill at 100% off a raw hit at ledge. profit. god I'm so glad I dropped this character. I just whish samus mains would admit there character sucks and ask for buffs so she could be *actually* good. not "ok I know every little minute detail so now at least while I'm playing 100% out of my mind I only lose to the top ten characters". lag reduction of f-tilt and Down tilt are a must for this character. dash attack sucks and has no follow ups. jab doesn't work. having to use jab 2 as a mixup option is sad. zair is inconsistent and doesn't do allot of damage. missiles blow vs good characters. charge shot is ass backwards in how it works. UP b is a really bad kill option and not even that great of a punish. this character could get a whole slew of buffs and still not be top ten..
