Hi Kay, I have found that a slim straight leg jean works best for me. It was hard to not wear the skinny form fitting jeans, but I think this style I have found is a good compromise. Most days where I live, a sweater is too warm but I’m substituting a button down shirt and using your tips. Thank you! Beth

I love scarves, they’ve always been my favorite accessory for 40 years, trending or not, they’re classic. I started wearing them in my 20s when few others did, but I always get so many compliments on my outfit when I wear one). I have a big collection of mostly inexpensive, but genuine silk, scarves and wear them a lot from autumn through spring. I just buy any that appeal to me if they are affordable, including many from Amazon (the selection is more depleted there now, though, after scarves recently began trending). My favorites are a white, black and gold baroque-design one from Amazon and a khaki green and cream-striped one from Toteme (this one was expensive). Most of my clothes are simple and solid-color and scarves are real “outfit makers” for my usually 1, 2 or 3 color outfits. They pull solid colors together and add femininity, color, pattern and style. Geometric-patterned scarves are especially trending now. I think the trick to wearing scarves is just not to fuss with them too much. I sometimes fasten them with little, cheap “gold rings”, the 10 for $5 type, by just pulling the ends through. This helps secure the really small squares that barely have enough fabric to tie a knot and it looks a lot more expensive than it really is. I usually just wear simple earrings and no necklace with them, but I have seen many women wearing them with pearl strands. I prefer fewer accessories for myself.

New to your channel and LOVE your tips and your gracious tone. I’m a bit disappointed, however, in the high price point of nearly every item you link. It’s not an option for me and I’m just wondering if I’m the only person who is thinking the same thing. I’m typically happy with reasonably priced Amazon quality and options so maybe it’s just me. My bar is likely lower 😅 I do appreciate the kindness with which you share so many good tidbits 🥰

Talbots is one of Kay's favorite places to shop. Their regular prices are high BUT about three weeks out of the month they have great sales. 30% - 40%+ is common. Talbots is my go-to but I never pay full price. Another tip - if you have a local store and place an order in person the shipping to your home is free for full-priced items or $2.50 for sale clothing. I just learned that lately.

That’s a great tip about the mixed-metal color jewelry item. I looked for years and I did finally find a necklace with both silver and gold colored metals in it (made of sterling, I’m not sure how they achieved the gold-colored parts) and it really does help blend the silver closures, etc. on clothing with my yellow “gold” jewelry. That’s really the only way I like mixing metals. For decades I wore only silver-colored jewelry because that’s what was recommended in my pro color analysis, but I always much more attracted to yellow gold-toned jewelry. I eventually tried it and I think it looks fine, my cool coloring tends toward neutral and simple metal jewelry doesn’t really add much color to an outfit anyway. My first wedding rings were white gold, and so many people said “I’ve never seen wedding rings made out of silver with diamonds before, are they real”? I got so tired of explaining that they were white gold with real diamonds, not silver. I think people are more used to seeing this now, lots of fine jewelry is made with white gold to set off the gemstones, especially diamonds, which can look yellowish if set in yellow gold.

Another great video thank you Kay! I live in a very cold climate so a leather jacket over a sweater would still require me to wear a winter coat. What do you think of wearing a fitted leather leather bomber jacket indoors like I would wear a blazer, in the winter?
@pamb28682 жыл бұрын
I love watching your channel. You give us all so much information. I just bought a faux leather black blazer. I didn’t want to spend a lot for real leather in case I don’t like it. I haven’t got to wear it yet. We took all the family out to eat the other night, but it was too warm to wear it then. It was chilly when we came out. And I wish I would have brought something to wear. I had a cashmere sweater on, but felt to warm. So I switched to a blouse. My granddaughters got in my closet and helped themselves to a few blouses. One took my pink satin blouse, but her sister took it and wore it. And ended up taking it home to Ohio with her. And another had a flannel shirt I had given them last year. I wondered what happened to that shirt. Now I know. And one took my black satin blouse. But ended up not wearing it. Of course, they always ask if they can have it. She didn’t get too far in my closet. She’s a hoodie girl and I have a few I bought. Because she always takes mine. I may be too old to wear a hoodie, but if it’s cold, I don’t care. I have two new pair of lug sole boots. So far I’ve only worn the black pair. I have a tan pair, and I’m not sure what color denim to wear with them. I have some lighter wash denim I might try them. The boots are very comfortable. We looked at some land a few weeks ago, and I walked all over and they felt great. And my husband bought them for me. Which surprised me.

My daughter in law brought her own slippers with her yesterday for Thanksgiving. I thought that was brilliant. But if you're visiting someone you don't know as well and there's the chance you may need to remove your shoes, just be sure to wear nice socks. Once when I walked to a neighbor's house in the snow for dinner, I wore my boots, but took some little slipper type shoes in my bag to change into. so that's a thought, too.

I don’t like wearing sweaters as tops, i.e., right next to my skin. Even though I only wear natural fiber ones, I know I will overheat before too long, unless outdoors in the cold. Also, even good cashmere irritates my skin. So, I usually wear a lightweight long-sleeved shirt or knit top (a silk knit tee is my favorite), then I can remove the sweater indoors, or just tie it around my shoulders. I also really like a white or light shirt collar and cuffs peeping out when wearing a darker sweater.

Problem with jeans is that most made their choice based on fashion, which is always swinging back and forwards between ultra skinny and baggy and often pointing towards blue stonewashed. For most people a moderate slimfit in solid GREY is the one that works best on your bodytype, goes with the widest variety of outfits and is just so forgiving to style. A stonewashed blue jeans can be very unforgiving to style and is not for smart casual. Ultraskinny and baggy both only work on teenagers!
