Totally freakin awesome! :-) (Having worked with lasers since the mid-1970s, I already knew of all of the uses for lasers that you explained in this video, but I found this vid to be an invaluable resource for those people new to laser technology.) BTW I'm expecting a couple of directly-injected diode lasers in the near-future: a 488nm one and a 505nm one. :-D

You can get them on Ebay for ~$80 now; just do a search for "505nm laser pointer" and you should see them listed. One such listing is www.ebay.com/itm/505nm-5mW-Green-Laser-Pointers/223094849126?hash=item33f17d3e66:g:2DYAAOSwcVxba-Rb These lasers use a rechargeable 18650 Li:ION cell for power; if you don't already have such a cell & charger at your disposable, you'll have to procure them when you purchase the laser itself. One such listing is www.ebay.com/itm/PKCELL-18650-Vape-Mod-Battery-and-Charger-2-piece-Real-3000mAh-Smart-Charger/141738189719?hash=item2100412397

The 505nm portable laser could be here as early as tomorrow (if DHL does Saturday deliveries) or Monday! I'm so stoked about it!!! :-) First thing that I'm going to do is perform both broadband and narrowband spectroscopy of it, and *THEN* I'll start shooting photographs of it and its beam terminus spot to add to the web page that I'm constructing for it to be added to my website. And yes, before anybody says that I'm just going to blast things with it (and possibly perform some fluorescence experiments), you're absolutely correct!!! :-) This is a self-contained portable laser, not a lab laser, so I'm not expecting absolute perfection in its beam profile or stability -- but it should still be more than adequate for performing its intended function -- as a handheld optical pointing device.
@telephony6 жыл бұрын
The 505nm laser arrived just moments ago!!! :-) The color is a bit more on the green side than I expected, but I'll run it through my spectrometer either tonight after sunset or tomorrow before sunrise (so that ambient light doesn't queer the test) and I'll be able to furnish an exact wavelength then.

This is an old video but I wanted to add one secret use of lasers and that is for espionage. When Germany was still divided, spies would shoot an invisible laser across West Germany into East German windows to pick up the conversation inside the room. The windows act like a diaphragm, vibrating with the sounds inside which the could be illuminated then picked up by a specially tuned camera.
@TMJK225 жыл бұрын
But what does a person individually do with handheld lasers such as yourself? Just collect them or as conversation pieces?

Also used by chemists to determine the optical isomerism of organic molecules. More specifically, light from lasers will reflect at different angles depending on how atoms are arranged around a chiral carbon atom. This can distinguish 2 enamtiomers that are chemically and physically identical, but have atoms that are arranged differently in space.

I mean aren't these extremely good for self defense?U can easily blind ur attacker in self defense situation and not just temporarily but permanently not to mention that type of laser u own can easily be used as bat as well to take down an opponent even though it may break the laser in the inside since usually the metal used for these lasers is aluminum pop metal soft metals basically so yeah but overall a solid build laser in a baton shape can easily be very effective at self defense
