All very good recommendations. I don't do all of them (e.g. I'm not too fond of the appearance of TTTF so only use KBG and PRG), but I've learned over the past few years about the importance of your other recommendations. I wish I'd seen something like this video five years ago.

I agree with the aeration and the "crust theory". My formula for remedying yellow spots is to aerate the area that is yellowed with a probe as deep as I can (without striking any irrigation), throwing topsoil and some amendments on it and saturating with hose. That also seems to alleviate that extremely hard surface of bare spots in the lawn where grass does not grow and where I know irrigation is in no way reaching the grass roots. Great video, and appreciate your valuable tips!

Regarding aeration, one of the most important benefits is decompaction (distressing and relaxing the surface layer) of the soil: Soil compaction frequently results from industrial disturbance on mineral soils, whether due to infrastructure, equipment traffic. Soil compaction tends to be most severe on sites with high clay content and high soil moisture and when operations occur during non-frozen conditions. Natural processes such as freeze-thaw cycles are typically not enough to loosen deeply compacted soils (10-20 cm deep), in which case mechanical treatments will be required to facilitate absorption of water, air, fertilizer and sun.

Yep you nailed it. Thanks for the detail here. A few questions about liquid aeration which I don’t recommend

scalping and cutting low on a bermuda lawn is not a bad thing I cut at 3/4 of inch and it looks great

Yes Bermuda is a bit different because it needs to be short. I do recommend mowing more often on warm season grasses like that

Why is it important doing a soil test if you use only organics? I have been throwing down organic and soil test came back with a low N,P,K yet the lawn looks like a golf course.
@TheLawnReview
@TheLawnReview 2 ай бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the question! If I’m understanding you correctly, you’re saying despite low levels of macronutrients (NPK) your grass is still looking great. Nitrogen is only one way to get green grass if that’s what you’re referring to. The other two are silent killers. Basically you don’t know you’re too low on them until it’s too late. I’d venture to guess if you used a tailored fert based on your results your lawn would look even better. But it’s really a case by case basis (soil condition, grass type, moisture levels, pH, etc). So it’s hard for me to say without more info! Appreciate you watching the video!!
@arielrodriguez6980
@arielrodriguez6980 2 ай бұрын
@@TheLawnReview Yes that is correct. Despite the low NPK my bermuda looks like a golf course. I think it is because two years ago I started adding organics and this is the result. Likely what happened is despite the low NPK it looks nice and green because the soil biology is great from all the organics. I have been treating the soil and not the grass.

@arielrodriguez6980 I think regardless of whether or not you use the synthetic fertilizer, nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus are still present in the soil. When did you do a soil test?

As far as aeration goes, I know core aeration is best but is liquid aeration of any significant value? Some people say great, others say scam.
@TheLawnReview
@TheLawnReview 2 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’s a scam but not nearly as effective as the mechanical action of pulling up the pellets from the ground and letting the air and nutrients in

Can stop buying crappy stuff… say… apply to maybe a $1,500 reel mower? If so can you give me a note to pass along to my wife? I’ve explained away the good fertilizer and good pre-emergent. She sees the fruits of those expenses. It’s the golf green or irrigation system she doesn’t seem to see the ROI on.
