The police failed this little girl. Their main goal should have been to save the child from her psycho dad. So instead of backing off and following at a safe distance they engage in a shootout while pursuing them aggressively. Anyone with a brain can see that these tactics had a very slim chance of ending with a positive outcome.

I'm under the impression that they are trained to be a paramilitary these days. What I mean is they are trying to survive and accomplish the mission instead of protect and serve. That's what a soldier does not a peacekeeping officer. Just look at the kind of gear they've been getting since the Gulf War. The solution is for people to be honest about what they're doing and change for the better instead of doing the same thing over and over again.

The bad apple argument is not a good one because the fact that there's way more bad apples than one off officers. 5-10% of cops given a psych test in Alameda, CA, had their weapons and LE powers taken from them. They are allowed to retest in 2 months which is likely insufficient for correcting the ideological/psychological issues that prompted sidelining them from performing LE duties. What this means is that with this study extrapolated, there is way too many cops on the street that shouldn't be allowed to be cops. This is why it's a systemic problem and not "just a few bad apples." That 5-10% comes out to about as high as 45,000 to 90,000 "bad apples" in America as of 2022.

Why was she wearing tactical gear? How many teens even own tactical gear? Is it possible the girl killed her mother? Was Dad actually trying to help her escape? Why would he have her in gear and not himself? If she was raised by the kind of guy who would shoot his wife, it's early in the investigation to declare her a sane and innocent bystander. It really sucks that cops never really know what they are walking into. Police are rarely called to protect, "The guy in tactical gear," who is just riding along with the guy who has fired several bullets into their cars. Did they really have evidence that the girl was not ducked in the back seat like a normal kidnap victim? Pay attention to Allegedly!

This is super sad. At face value, it seems like it MIGHT be an understandable mistake. There's gunfire coming from the car, and the police are firing back. Someone gets out of the car, and the police fire at them. The police should have had in their minds throughout the whole ordeal "There's an innocent in that car. Our aim is to protect and rescue her." And if someone gets out of the car, wait to see who it is. What the MIGHT have had in their minds instead is simply "Get the bad guy!" And the presence of an innocent became incidental in their minds to what they're doing. So when she gets out, they think "Get the bad guy!" because they just weren't thinking of her. Maybe something like that happened. When you're being fired at, it seems understandable to me that you might be highly focused on the one firing at you. Understandable is not the same as excusable, though. Seems to me like a better initial response from the police would be, "... Wow. We're so sorry. This is tragic. Our responding officers did the opposite of what they went there to do. Instead of rescuing the young girl, they killed her. We don't yet know how this unfolded. An independent investigation team is looking into it. If any officer or officers acted irresponsibly or against training or against our policies, we'd like to find out and hand down appropriate discipline. Even if it turns out that everything was within training and policy and no discipline is warranted, this shows we may need to revisit and improve our training and policies. We're very sorry about this tragic outcome today. *real tears from the speaker* Independent investigators are looking into it, and we'll have an update for you this time next week, or sooner."

There is a very long history of the police wrongfully shooting people and engaging in cover ups. However, the fact that the police shoot a certain number of people each year is not proof of wrong doing. Olayemi over generalizes, which is surprising given that she is a lawyer and knows full well that the facts of each case need to be examined separately. (Don’t get me wrong. The police need to be held accountable. And the more body cams and cruiser cams put in use make such abuse and cover ups more difficult.) In addition, she is just wrong in saying that police don’t stop crime. Several studies have shown that a greater police presence and more enforcement do in fact reduce crime. That was demonstrated in NYC under both Giuliani and Bloomberg.

Without a doubt, neither Robby nor his guest have been in a fire fight. No offense, but dressed as an antagonist, she should have came out hands up and laid down, immediately. I grieve with the family. The Police should have recognized a face down posture, if displayed. But, how do you know that the Police aren't assessing the situation in order to do better in the future. Especially in today's woke anti police atmosphere. What will they say when the Police are being gunned down by gang-bangers during operational situations. You don't say BAE (Danish for), end of excuses. React as you should or expect to become a statistic. Guilty or not, give up and survive.

Two things can be true at once. I think in this case there can be extenuating circumstances like what the victim was wearing. I promise, if you wear a plate carrier and helmet out in public, even if you're a 5 ft, 100 lb person, you'll get some concerned looks. Secondly, although certain clothes or paraphernalia can raise the temperature especially in split second encounters, it can also be true that for too long cops have cared more about getting themselves home alive at the end of the day than the people they purport to serve. The reason we used to and should revere cops is because the job calls on you to risk your own life to save others. Sometimes that means giving a possible "suspect" an extra few moments of analysis to determine exactly how big of a threat they present. Sometimes, that extra second costs a cop his or her life, but other times it might save the life of a 15 year old girl scared out of her mind running toward the people shes counting on to save her and not considering what she looks like to them.

2:00 "The police admit to shooting and killing 1045 people each year." The definitions of "common" and "uncommon" may be subjective and surely depends on context and interpretation. Consider: (1045 incidents)/(365 days in a year) = 2.86 incidents per day . Does this meet the threshold of "common" or "uncommon", and whose threshold do we use? Is this too high, too low, just right, or something else? I think it's fair to talk about these incidents and advocate for improvement in police practices, no matter how "(un)common" they are.

@@ScottHeritage "And of those 1,045 incidents, how many officers were cleared for acting appropriately in the moment vs. being engaged in a malicious extra judicial killing?" I don't know, and I don't think it matters. As I said in my previous post, how you define "common" and "uncommon" is subjective and depends on the context. This standard is not especially relevant, in my opinion. "There's also 350+ million people in this country. 1,045 over the course of the year isn't a massive number in comparison to the population of the U.S." If we compare the number of plane crash fatalities with the number of airline passengers, one can argue that these fatalities are extraordinarily rare. Yet each crash is given much attention, and improvement (of pilot training, of aircraft construction, etc.) is always pushed. There are other factors to analyze in these incidents, not just frequency. I see nothing wrong with anyone advocating for improvement.
