على الرغم من أن "news" هي كلمة جمع، إلا أننا في اللغة الإنجليزية لا نستخدم الفعل "to be" (are) معها بصورة مباشرة كما نفعل مع الجمل الجمع الأخرى. السبب في ذلك يعود إلى أن "news" يُعامل في الغالب كاسم غير قابل للعد (uncountable noun)، أي لا يمكن حسابه أو تعديده.
