The main authority people believe for health is still the doctor. And that crowd will still generally emphasize cardio.

I had an argument with this “trainer” who was saying that getting to your identified BMI is the best way to be healthy. She didn’t want to hear ANYTHING I said to say about body fat percentage and the amount of muscle a person should maintain when losing weight....it’s sad that so many people don’t understand how important your muscle to fat ratio is when losing weight and overall health.

I’ve spent most of my time exercising failing with heavy cardio and very little (if any) resistance training. Now that I know how important resistance training is, my life has completely changed and that is from your content. I finally feel strong and capable - a feeling I could never really achieve no matter how hard I worked out. I’ll never be able to put into words how thankful I am for your channel and content. I look forward to continuing to challenge myself. Please keep putting out more content!

37:00 My high blood-pressure issues are definitely managed much better using moderate-intensity cardio (1-2 days of running and/or 5-7 days of walking) than purely resistance training. Whenever I stop running for a few weeks, my BP goes up. Consequently, my performance in the gym also gets worse. I feel that for hypertension at least, cardio might strictly be superior to resistance training. Maybe this point can be discussed? In 2020, I would feel dizzy doing body-weight squats. I did mild-speed jogging every day for 3-4 months to reduce my BP to a point that I would no longer need meds. I also slowly introduced supported squats, incline push-ups. I am grateful to cardio that I can now do bench press and weighted squats without risking a stroke!

Listening to this podcast has profoundly changed my fitness journey. The way you all explain how to lose fat and maintain muscle really resonated with me. I'm finally seeing and feeling the results I've been after for years. I've always been a 'skinny fat' female and at 5'3", I was always under the impression I had to keep my calories low and my cardio high to lose fat. You all showed me that is false and now I'm losing fat and eating enough to feel satisfied. My biceps are looking 🔥 and I'm seeing my ab muscles for the first time. Seriously, I can't thank you all enough!

I’ve been doing resistance training on and off for 4 years but never considered how important macros are and found out how I’ve been grossly under eating protein. Having something to listen to that covers that multiple times is really helping me look after my diet.

If you think about it in the way Sal likes to put it-the context of evolution and survival- heavy lifting of things does not equal environmental stress. However, if you have to run long distances, and keep your body moving that often-before treadmills, so you’d actually be traveling-running would be an indicator of stress. Now I know hunting would involve some cardio, but most likely more in an OCR/functional training/speed agility quickness way. Hunting would more closely resemble athletic pursuits. Slaving away on cardio and running long distances though, would be extremely indicative of a crisis such as having to run away from a predator or from enemy tribes, something like that. Heavy lifting would be in your daily life. Not like there was plastic back then or office water coolers, so some of the materials you’d have to use were heavy, and you had to have strength to carry out vital jobs. Carrying water back from a watering hole for example. I have always similarly thought of exercise like mind pump and Sal does, in the context of human evolution and survival, and they have helped me form this hypothesis/conclusion. Long endurance running=environmental threat, heavy lifting=daily life for a paleoindian or prehistoric person. Funny cause I’m an Anthropology major turned personal trainer and I always wondered how I’d use my degree 🤔😄

If youre wanting to get lean do more cardio, if youre leaner I would reccomend a clean bulk and hard training !

Sai's math doesn't check out. I weight 200lbs and am 20% bodyfat that means I have 40lbs of fat on me. Now according to his example I lose 10lbs, half of it is fat, half of it is muscle so I have 35lbs of fat on a 190lb body which is 18.5% bodyfat. That's 1.5% less, not the same body fat percentage as he purports.

My sister was a serious gymnast from the ages 3-18 and now in her younger 30s and two kids later she still has a really great body and doesn’t even try but she is pretty short compared to me and our other sisters, so I kinda lean more towards the theory that that kind of training can stunt children’s growth.

I'm building lots of muscle and getting stronger everyday, but still there is ONE thing that I'm unhappy about my body: I have acne all over my back. I had it my whole life, and that bugs me a lot and I wish I could get rid of it It's not the teenager type of acne, they aren't very expressive, I can't even feel them if I touch them, it's just a lot of pale red marks on my back. I tried a lot of things to get rid of it, some, like using neutral soap, helped contain and diminish it, but not get rid of it completely. Some info, my diet is very good, I rarely eat sugar, I don't drink soda, I eat very little fry stuff, I eat minimum vegetable oil, I'm without a shirt almost always while at home Can anyone help me? I've even searched for medical help, but the doctor didn't help me at all

If you are open to an alternative perspective look into German New Medicine. If it's true acne--i.e affecting the dermis layer-- then it's about feeling ugly, attacked or soiled in that specific area. If it's the epidermis and thus more of a rash than acne, it's about a separation (dont want something or someone touching your back)

I totally agree with the title of this. Bodybuilding subculture has created the stigma of the muscle bound freak and scared people towards functional movement training instead of lifting heavy weight for fear of getting “bulky”. People who don’t know any better see body builders like Ronnie and DLB and think they will turn into them if they pick up a barbell. Mean while, gym rats trying to tell their friends that their gym is not a cult are thinking, “if it was only that easy...”. You can’t lift and be enthusiastic about it without superficial motives being called to question, especially as you get older. If you decide to make “lifting” your hobby, you surely need to be prepared and educated to defend your position... also have your full supplement stack and programming on standby to be critiqued lol

Something you said that I noticed women have this mentality and it’s because of natural selection. You said if you had a good body you got by resistance training you had to hide that fact because it was considered cheating, they would say “oh, it’s because of that, it doesn’t count”. Many women today still have this mentality. They want someone who is naturally muscular (I’m theorizing because subconsciously that means they have good genes), and consider it kind of like cheating if it’s because you have to spend a bunch of time in the gym
