His shoe's say it all (I think) ❤️ The whole show has much more of David, but as you know wherever he played with Jackson, it was the greatest. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHywhWx6dtlloLMsi=dseVNkokQEAl0-Jp

Impossible for me to pick a favorite Jackson Browne song, but this is a little known gem that gives me chills (in a good way). You all created a masterpiece here. Losing Lindley was such a blow, and this is a wise reminder to live each day to the fullest and to take care of each other. Hoping we all “look out beyond the walls of Babylon” in 2024.

I can hardly believe I'm watching the original musician playing the bass part of the lead-off track of Jackson's masterpiece album, the one that blew me away the day I bought The Pretender in a record shop in Sherman Oaks in 1976 (?), the one that erupts today the way it did then. Thank you, Leland, for this aural and visual treat. I used to pore over the credits on the liner notes, and never forgot you were the anchor on this track, but who could forget the others' rock-solid playing? Lindley ERUPTS, like a volcano.

It saddened me to hear you speak of what would be said after your time has come to pass... You have left your mark on the world and will never be forgotten. A friend in high school was a senior and asked me for words to say at his graduation speech as valedictorian (I was just a sophomore). I chose lyrics from The Fuse. "Whatever it is, you have nothing to lose/Through every dead and living thing time runs like a fuse/ And the fuse is burning/ And the earth is turning..." There was more but I don't recall all that I included. It seems welcome at Graduation. The year was 1978, as I recall. What an amazing song. Thank you, Leland! Happy Holidays!

Lyrics It's coming from so far away It's hard to say for sure Whether what I hear is music or the wind Through an open door There's a fire high in the empty sky Where the sound meets the shore There's a long distance loneliness Rolling out over the desert floor And the years that I spent lost in the mystery Fall away leaving only the sound of the drum Like a part of me It speaks to the heart of me Forget what life used to be You are what you choose to be It's whatever it is you see That life will become Whatever it is you might think you have You have nothing to lose Through every dead and living thing Time runs like a fuse And the fuse is burning And the earth is turning Though the years give way to uncertainty And the fear of living for nothing strangles the will There's a part of me That speaks to the heart of me Though sometimes it's hard to see It's never far from me Alive in eternity That nothing can kill Oh lord Are there really people starving still? Look out beyond the walls of Babylon How long will their needs go unfilled I want to say right now I'm going to be around I'm going to be around When the walls and towers are crumbling When the towers are tumbling down And I will tune my spirit to the gentle sound I want to hear the sound Of the waters lapping on a higher ground Of the children laughing and Shawn Colvin singing

In a few days I can think I made through another year, but as you know each year revolves around your birthday day, when the number changes +1 in years. For me that will occur in 68 days (March 6th). I don't know how you can remember all the songs you played on. You might consider a song book, with the song charts and sheet music on how you played the song. A semi-overlooked masterpiece (and an exemplar of the magic of which you and Russ are capable together). Always one of my favorites - in every way. Brings me way back to when I was an 8- or 9-year-old drummer who decided to take up the bass, as well, because of you and these very recordings. I recall scuffling along with some of these songs on my shitty Montoya bass through my even shittier Marlboro amp. (Yes, I have pictures.) Really enjoyed the last time you played along to this one and was happy to see and hear an encore. As for David, I'm just grateful to have been alive - to see, to hear, to meet him - while he was doing his thing.
