go to college, get a high hour high pay job and you can make 130k + a year easily, and it's more worth it then running around delivering food and is hassle free depending on what job choice you pick, I suggest going into IT like my dad, he went to school for 6 years and makes 150k a year and I think anyone who puts their mindset to this can achieve it because nothing is impossible and time is learning and knowledge is > work meaning if you take your time learning you will overall make more money doing your occupation over the years which most people can't seem to comprehend as well as others. My occupational goal is to earn 80k at least right off the bat from graduating college with a Ph.D. This was less criticism and more of a spill of what my pov is, if you made it this far respond with a "Good luck" or "You can do it" if not you don't have to but good luck to whatever job choice you decide on!

One thing you mentioned that is very true, you have to get it while the getting is good. There are too many players in the food delivery space, UberEats, DoorDash, OrderUp, GrubHub, Postmates, etc, not to mention local delivery services and in-house food delivery like Dominos, Panera Bread. Who knows which ones will survive long term and which ones are going to kick the bucket in a year or two.
@RideshareGenius8 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It seems like there's a new one every day. Only so many will survive... But it does also seem like delivery will be more and more common for anything and everything in the future.

You got lucky. In my area (Charlotte NC) most people tip 2-5$, which Door-dash happily steals! Its because of their thieving company policies, I can honestly tell people working for Door-dash I make approximately 6-8 dollars an hour (before taxes) and I am at constant risk of losing my vehicle due to accidents or mechanical break-downs, and for police citations (parking isn't always easy). I am trying to find better gigs now, because Door-dash just DOES NOT PAY!

@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
I think there are a couple things going on: 1) DoorDash is growing quickly - they are trying to balance the need for drivers with an increase in orders on their platform. As the market reaches stability, there will be slow times and extremely busy times. 2) This is just the slow time of year. From my experience, December and January, with the exception of NYE and holiday party weekends in December, are very slow months. Things will pick up towards the end of the month, but for now, just keep your options open (like you're doing with PM) and keep hustling! It will get better soon!! :)

While I realize your guidelines and experiences may vary...I actually tried Postmates for the first time (and first time ever using my car to make money) and my very first order pickup had to be close to $80. 3 large pizzas, several sandwiches, chips and more. I delivered to a very wealthy looking gated community in Summerlin, NV (part of Las Vegas) where there was a nice Lexus in the driveway. I was greeted by a women who was anxiously waiting for me to deliver her food. Well...I was tipped a whopping $4.00 on an order that as mentioned earlier...had to be close to $80.00. So, she tipped me around 5%. The next delivery did not tip at all.

BabyMatrix27 I had a DD delivery in the Atlanta market yesterday for $21. Only two items and not much of a distance (everything is far in GA). I've had some as low as $5.93 and the $21 was the second of its kind. FYI... I've been delivering with them for about 20-25 days.
@PongoXBongo5 жыл бұрын
It varies wildly by area (affluent vs average) and market (upscale vs fast casual). That's not far off from what I've been averaging per order, but that's 2-3+ orders per hour for approx. $20+ an hour total. This is not a get-rich job, this is a be-your-own-boss while getting-by OK job (if FT) or a decent side gig (if PT). It really pays to take advantage of high demand bonuses and to target the most profitable parts of town (even if they're further from home). Keep your ratings up (yes, all of them). Being selective with orders is ok, until it starts to affect how many orders you get total. But you can recover with some suck-it-up shifts. ;)

Do you have a preference from postmates or doordash? Great video!
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
Hey George! Thanks for stopping by and watching! I generally prefer DoorDash because they provide more info (pickup, dropoff, order total) and I find the tips to be more consistent. Depending on where you're located, there may well not be an orientation anymore for DoorDash. There wasn't one for me here in Minneapolis when I signed up in late 2018. Even if you have to go to one, it basically saves you waiting on getting your gear in the mail so you can start that same day.

Hi! did a few deliveries for those two and never had such a huge tip. In fact, sometimes I got no tip and ended up being 4.10 for like a half hour or more (and there was nothing wrong with the order and I was nice too). Also, now you don't know if there is a blitz or not with Postmates and DoorDash, for me was really really bad. Also, it is not like you can choose or you like will know how big the delivery is before you accept or how far you need to take it to, but you can't ignore many deliveries. And parking to get the food and to deliver is really bad in central LA, it was very stressful for me and had to park in red many times, sucked. Things might have changed a lot since you posted this too. I would like to know if you are still doing this and how it is going or if you have any tips.

At least with DoorDash, you can pick and choose which parts of town you want to work in. And you can vary those parts from day-to-day, even shift-to-shift that same day. So explore around the various parts of your town to find a balance between decent orders and decent parking. When the sun is shining and the weather is nice I tend to work in more walkable areas (park centrally and hoof it). When it's not so nice out, I go for areas with more nearby parking. Often I'll start my day in a busier, more profitable area, then end my day in an area closer to home.

hey man really great video! really helpful on getting to know these apps on how they can help benefit me on great income for little amount of time, looking forward to getting started on my postmates path. would you say it was easy getting the deliveries on time time to the customer ?
@RideshareGenius8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've never had a problem making deliveries on time. Postmates doesn't give you a specified delivery time so all you can do is deliver it ASAP, which is what you wanna do anyway in order to make the most money. DoorDash does give a "deliver by" time but it's usually not a problem. Once when it was really busy, I got an order that was already supposed to be delivered so I called the customer to update her and see if she still wanted it. She gave me a nice tip so it worked out.

Hey Man, Your videos are awesome! Which company do you prefer at the moment? Im just doing post mates right now, but I'm thinking about doordash too. Thank you!
@RideshareGenius8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! There are pros and cons to each company. DoorDash provides more info (pickup, dropoff, order $ value), it also may hold you to a higher acceptance rate. DoorDash pays a flat rate (low) delivery fee, Postmates pays per mile. The MAJOR advantage is with DoorDash and I'll tell you why... The DoorDash customer app requires the customer to select a tip at the time they order. For a while, I thought this was weird... "who would leave a big tip before even getting their order?" And I figured that with Postmates if you hustle and deliver from the restaurants that are higher-priced & reliable, you'll get tipped. But then I realized it just comes down to the way the customer uses the app and the DoorDash customer experience encourages better tips. I'm gonna provide my 100% best service on EVERY order I do, but I try to be slightly selective about which jobs I do. I think it's definitely worth it to try DoorDash and have the ability to PIVOT between apps on demand. If Postmates is slow and DoorDash is busy, you can log onto DoorDash and likely make more money at that time. Or maybe DoorDash has a good hourly promotion for drivers going on and you want to be able to take advantage of that. Only reason to hold out and not try DoorDash would be if you think they might have a good new driver or driver referral bonus in the near future. I haven't seen many (or any) big bonuses offered with either company so far. Generally, they seem to be in $50-$150 range for the new driver from what I've seen/ I should make a video about these two companies to try and break it down! :) Hope this helps, Jeremiah! Please let me know if that made sense, LMAO.. I wrote a lot

@RideshareGenius8 жыл бұрын
Yes! That is part of the strategy - the best restaurants are the high end ones which also have the food ready quickly and are easy to park at and get in and out of quickly! It's all about finding your niche and go-to restaurants and also about being selective with which orders you take - remember that Postmates has no required acceptance rate so you should pick and choose the best orders.
7 жыл бұрын
The new update makes it so you can't see the customer location until after you confirm that you've picked up the order. So you could get an order for a restaurant in that area, and after picking it up, you will see the destination is half way across L.A. My friend working postmates has had pickups in Hollywood with dropoff in Burbank... then you have to go back to your cherry area on your own gas and time. It's a bum deal any way you slice it with on demand services for the drivers.

One thing I want to know is when do you scan a ID in before completing drop off. I delivered a pack and nothing prompted me to scan an ID. Is that normal ? What was it like in your experience ? The way I'm understanding it is the fleet app will alert if anything and wont let you complete the drop off until ID is verified. I had no prompts to tap on and proceeded with commands that where there for that transaction. Thanks again for sharing insight

well it depends where places you at. in my place people order and they leave far awat. takes 8-13 min distance all the time

+chico villamor remember that with DoorDash, you can see the pickup AND dropoff before you accept an order. So if a dropoff is far away, you might want to decline

How long does it take for a prospective doordash driver to get approved before they can go out and deliver?
@PongoXBongo5 жыл бұрын
I applied on the website on Monday and was dashing by the end of the week (that was in late 2018). The background checks and all that went through right away, I was just waiting to get my gear in the mail (bag and credit card). Still happily dashing into 2019. Be warned though, in many markets now (like mine here in Minneapolis) they no longer hold orientations. They just mail you your stuff and say "good luck". I _highly_ recommend watching YT videos by experienced dashers that do ride-a-longs, app overviews, and that give tips and tricks. ;)

In Postmates, I accept on certain criteria. No fast-food, Asian restaurants, Starbucks. It has to be a fairly decent restaurant. Can I do the same with Door Dash?
@PongoXBongo5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. There is no sortable criteria, you just get the nearest available order offered to you. But you _can_ accept or deny orders based on the restaurant and guaranteed payout for that order. Just be aware that DD does track your order acceptance rate and it can affect things like bonus rates, and even total orders offered if it drops low enough (ultimately ending in deactivation if it bottoms out).

Of ALL of the different delivery services, which ones are worth signing up with and which ones blow? - deliv.co, wedeliver2you, doordash, grubhub, postmates, trycaviar, doorstepdelivery. And also, what about uberontime? (you've already stated Ubereats is in the "blow" category)
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
Each app has pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses. It's good to sign up for a bunch and see which ones work best for you. So far from my experience, I would rank them GrubHub, DoorDash, UberEATS, Postmates, Caviar

It’s all about the area you are at. On a 5 dollar order you won’t get a tip. It’s all about the type of people you deliver to,, if the customer has money most likely you will get a tip.

Door Dash is. not available most times because you have to log in to Dash and sometimes they don’t give you any orders. Postmates is a waste of time. I did one order in about a month, I live in Orlando Florida and I know everywhere is different, Uber Eats is the best one because it’s more consistent
@davidkee23635 жыл бұрын
I live in Orlando too. Even tho is hard to get a schedule on DD, I manage to get at least 6 hours a day with no hassle and make way more money than UberEats.

How are people tipping that much? For uber eats only 1 out of 10 people tip me and its usually $3. For these other apps do they tip u thru the app? Amd everyone tips?
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
Yes, all of the other apps allow tipping through the app. DoorDash and GrubHub have some of the best tips from my experience. Most customers tip
@michelleboutwell-goodman8186 жыл бұрын
rhymegarden I agree. Most customers don’t tip. I give all the extras, arrive quickly and make sure the order is A+ and most don’t tip. I’m in Santa Monica. I now only take large orders and during blitz pricing. I calculated my earnings from tips this past Saturday and it worked out to 6.25 per hour after tips. Changing my strategy.
@George-nn8ui6 жыл бұрын
When Uber Eats started they didn't wish to include tips since they wanted to be the cheapest delivery service, they will give quests which will basically give you what you already deserve to have per mile. For example you should get 50 cents per mile which includes coming back to your area. They hold back some of that money per mile till you finish a quest to get your 2 more dollars per trip. To make matters worse, they finally allow the tip option but the customer has to 1: wait an hour to get an email, then 2: go into that email, then 3: rate you, then :4 tip. So half the time I am getting the tip the next day since who has time to babysit your email after eating, your tired, your going to watch a show after a long day then get ready for your next day. With Doordash, they assume that the driver should get a tip since he or she basically was your server. And think about the quality of the restaurants uber Eats started with, McDonalds. Already, they are in a mindset of cheap, so why would they tip you 5 or 10 dollars for junkfood which costs 1 to 3 dollars per item?
@tamarafarmer70406 жыл бұрын
George Bennett when I order on ubereats it asks me in the app for the tip option. It's immediately after my food is delivered. I wonder if the app varies per area.
@keithwhitlock7267 жыл бұрын
These delivery jobs have reached saturation point. Your better off working for a catering company, deli, or pizza delivery.
@leadnsteel14285 жыл бұрын
yeah go with an independant company. These apps get too saturated with drivers, everyone thinks they will get rich and wants to be their own boss.

Hey.... please answer my question!! I just started working for Door Dash, can you explain to me about the tip part?? I only get to see how much I am getting paid for the order, I haven't even cashed my first paycheck yet, do you get tips added later on once you get your check or how does it work??
@PongoXBongo5 жыл бұрын
I think DoorDash removed tip visibility from the app (sadly). But tips are automatically included in the "guaranteed pay" for a given order, what you see is what you get. Any cash tips are not included as they are not tracked by DD, only tips added in the customer's app at the time the order is placed show up. You can view your earning for the week at any time by selecting "Earnings" from the Dasher app menu.

I only do Uber Eats in Toronto. No tips but also, here in Canada, no tax deductions. Do you pay tax doing UberEats in California?
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean. Could you explain a bit more? In the US, we must pay income tax. Part of filing income tax is deducting business expenses (e.g. vehicle operating costs.) So tax deductions are actually a good thing for drivers.

Taking ridesharing out of the equation, do you think a delivery scooter has an advantage as far as deliveries of food, over a car?
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
Advantages and disadvantages... Obviously you can't carry as much or as securely as you could with a car, rain could really hurt you... But upside is you can get around quickly, park quickly, get in and out quickly. So with the right strategy and delivering in the right areas, I think you could be successful with a scooter
@culcune7 жыл бұрын
My friend manages for a company called Excalibur Motorsports out of City of Industry (shameless plug--but they are predominantly wholesale). Their main line is TGB scooters from Taiwan. One of the scooters is a dedicated commercial delivery scooter. I instantly thought of the numerous delivery companies hiring contractors (since the loophole in a lawsuit hungry place like California is independent contractors). The big box on the back has a size of 150 liters. I might be moving back to L.A. (San Fernando Valley) and figured I would most likely need a side job, although the Valley is spread out enough for cars. But I was thinking of all the areas that have expanded into upscale urban areas like downtown, with limited parking and whatnot, a scooter might be a good way to go.
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
For downtown, Hollywood, West Hollywood and even the Westside, I think a scooter would allow you to operate really efficiently, completing more orders and earning more. I'm curious to learn more! If you get the scooter and try delivering, please let me know :)
@culcune7 жыл бұрын
I already have the scooter; 2004 TGB Delivery 150. There are brand-new versions from TGB of my scooter (it is now called the Express 50), but they are currently only importing the 50cc two-stroke versions. I am applying to work back in L.A. as a teacher (from Yuma, AZ), so am keeping my options open for side work, and I am guessing, assuming I get hired, I would be moving in August. I see the ads stating that one could ride a bike or a scooter or motorcycle which sounds crazy in liability-paranoid California, but the loophole as you already know is contractor vs. employee.

I think that's a good plan!

How’s the DoorDash pay? I’ve driven over a weeks and averaging $6/hr after working 9 hrs for only $67. I contacted support and the called me back once because DoorDash only paid me $3 for a 7mile delivery and used the customers tip as the main pay for me, basing their rate for my time and gas has nothing to do with the tip I earn, wtf
@PongoXBongo5 жыл бұрын
@@Ricky32908 Unless you live in a very slow market, food delivery wise, you should be making closer to $6 per delivery with DoorDash and 2-3+ deliveries an hour (+ during lunch and dinner rushes). Be sure to jump on busy bonuses and deliver in the best area(s) possible, not just your own backyard. Also, check your Ratings daily, if any of those drops too low you'll be assigned fewer orders, and eventually deactivated. There are plenty of helpful videos on YT that offer tips on raising them back up to start getting more orders again. _Always use your DoorDash insulated bag, always grab extras (straws, napkins, utensils, wet wipes, mints, etc.), and always thank the customer upon delivery._

I don't know how you got so many in such a short period of time. OH WAIT, you're in LA with a FUCK ton of people. Here in Orlando you'd think there would be more because of travellers, but I'm getting max 1 an hour, and often it's fucking chick-fil-a, and they rarely tip. Soo I'm basically paying for gas.

WARNING WARNING --------I am assuming postmates is stealing your tips ....everyone should try this. Have the friend place an order while you wait for the pickup. If the order is assigned to another courier have your friend cancel the order. If successful compare payout and tips to what the friend has to pay. OR place an order yourself and close out the order with the courier there and compare payout and tips (assuming they aren't a goody two shoes).
@RideshareGenius7 жыл бұрын
Hey Shanta, I've seen no evidence that Postmates is stealing tips. This wouldn't make sense for them to do because if caught (and they would be caught eventually), their entire business would fall apart. I've received tips on over 90% of my orders and most are very generous tips too. I think you should evaluate your strategies, which will help you earn more

I believe you can reach out to support to temporarily work in another dashable city if you're going to be there for a while. But they have to officially de-activate and re-activate you in the new area before you can start dashing (or something like that). But that's only for a completely different metro area. You can freely choose from areas of your existing metro at any time.
