Kim Min Hee was brilliant in the role of a woman so self-reflexive and hypercritical. She washes off her emotional and sexual frustrations with such razor-sharp line delivery; oscillating from drunken monologues to sarcastic display of effervescence. What is also fascinating about her performance is how it mirrors the real-life tragedies she is facing. Using an artistic mode as response, Kim audaciously confronts public scrutiny by playing herself: an actress who had a vilified affaire de coeur with a married director. She is both bare and brave as she modulates a character sewn together by her own personal threads. In that aspect alone, the viewers do not see an actress who happens to read profound dialogue from Hong's ever adroit writing, but they witness an artist who puppeteers a performance with brazen truth and lucid spontaneity as a creative statement of her true self.
