Alaska! Excellent! I've had enough palm trees. All these cruising channels...its all palm trees and diving reefs and blah blah. Give me the cold weather, the snow capped peaks, the halibut fishing and something new to look at. Great choice for a destination. :D

I heard REM in the background, my favorite band! Even as a native English speaker, I cannot figure out half the lyrics. So it means it's a blank canvas and you can make the song's meaning what you want, just like the song of sailing. Thank you for sharing your journey and the lyrics that make up your sailing song.

I have a quick question - what range are you getting from your AIS receiver for the ships out in the open ocean - what distance usually do you pick up the ships??? Barry.

It's a 50-foot ketch with a full-length keel. Why would it not be a good passage-maker?
@sailingZERO5 жыл бұрын
You think its that easy?? But I do like the full keel for sure..
@Raging.Geekazoid5 жыл бұрын
@@sailingZERO I just don't understand why at 9:25 you said you were surprised it's so good. I thought the whole purpose of ketches like that was for long passages. Anyway, it's a great looking boat and a fun video. I'll be sure to watch more of them. 😃

Is it normal for the autopilot to make rudder adjustments every second or two? It seems like it is making changes before the changes could have an effect. Or have I been hearing something else that sounds like a hydraulic pump in these videos?
@TheBrokenLife8 жыл бұрын
***** That's interesting. Is there any concern about the longevity of the system with so such frequent starting and stopping of the pump? Or has it been doing that for a very long period of time already?
@TheBrokenLife8 жыл бұрын
***** It's the frequent starting and stopping of the pump that would cause me concern, not the small angle of adjustment. That start/stop is typically referred to as "short cycling" and it's usually not a good thing. I don't know anything about sailing, so maybe you really do have to make rudder corrections very frequently to stay on course, so that is totally normal for that system but I have designed other hydraulic systems (which are generally industrial systems) and I would generally try to avoid such starting and stopping. I would typically try to avoid that either by installing an accumulator and a pressure activation switch for the pump (the accumulator acts as a pressure reservoir, so the pump runs to store pressure in the accumulator, then shuts off. Then the system uses the stored pressure until the pump needs to run to restore pressure again) or even configure the pump to run continuously and control the motion of the cylinder with a solenoid that allows all of the fluid to return to the tank until its needed at the cylinder. Clearly the pump running constantly wouldn't be good for your batteries. So, I'm curious if the system is operating to the design intent of the manufacturer or if maybe something is wrong with the calibration of a sensor or perhaps there is even an error in the sensitivity scaling in the software since you're only able to adjust it to get either short cycles or off course voyages. I love your channel and hope you continue to have safe and successful trips!

I enjoyed the video. I enjoyed Kodiak when I was there. I just wish you had more respect for your countries flag and the United States flag. That was nothing more than a stright slap in the face. That flag needed to be retired long ago as well as the German flag. Have some respect man.
@sailingZERO5 жыл бұрын
It is not out of disrespect. Its actually the opposite. I didn't had another one and not flying a courtesy flag is disrespectful in my opinion. Unfortunately they don't last long if its windy..
@travisdehning10525 жыл бұрын
@@sailingZERO flags are cheap. You have spare items that cost way more. Having a spare or a actual flag would have been respectful. What you displayed was extremely disrespectful. You went from a US state to a US state. No exucue...
