Struggling to determine if a salt is acidic, basic, or neutral? Chad breaks it down so that you can identify which cations and anions are acidic and basic.
I've created a general chemistry page that organizes all my videos by chapter - just an easier way for you to watch my KZbin videos. Check it out at www.chadsprep....
Happy Studying!

NH4CN has a + 1 charge for NH4 and a -1 charge for CN. Why is it not considered negligible?

Hey Raizen, are you using the +1 metal ions are neglible rule here?

isnt HSO4- anphoteric? Why are you saying it's acidic at 6:50?

Hello nraishanzr! It is indeed amphoteric which means that it CAN act as an acid or a base. However, it is a significantly stronger acid than it is a base and if you place it in water the pH will definitely be less than 7. Now if you put it in solution with an even stronger acid you could get it to act as a base, but in water it is considerably more likely to act as an acid. In talking about the acidity and basicity of salts in this lesson we are trying to elucidate their effect when dissolved in water which is why I've then classified it as an acidic anion. Hope this helps!😊
