Really disappointing to see this. Unfortunately You'll find many people like this who will be over nice to you at first then try to scam you. You dont need to interact with each one of them. Just avoid shady people and never give out money, if someone is begging offer them food or drinks. Or just ask any local person if you're conflicted. Wish you a good stay.

As an Indian it's very embarrassing and cringeworthy to watch another individual of my own nation scamming a guest ,where we as a nation have always been taught to treat guests and foreign nationals with utmost hospitality. Look the Indian govt. is certainly not the best when it comes to looking after the healthcare, welfare and education of school kids but they are improving at a gradual rate but these hoodwinkers leave no stones unturned in bringing the nation's image down.
