Finally a Pacman 2 review wich look at the innovativ aspect and don't just bash the game because it's nothing like the orginal
@KingRumar10 жыл бұрын
I used this game as example when explaining to the folks who claimed with absolute certainty that Pac-man wouldn't be in Smash Bros because he would lack moves. I told them Sakurai can give him standard combat as well as moves from his original game and this one. They said I was stupid as to why on Earth would a character as lame and lacking as Pac-man would make it. Well, after the big reveal of Pac-man, they never said a word about it and never said anything about taking back what they said and pretended like they've been in support of his decisions.

This was a similar situation with Fox back with the original Smash game as all that we know of him was he flew in a space ship and promotional images have him holding a gun. And as you said, Sakurai ended up giving him some basic martial art moves that would go on to define him and Falco in the game's sequel, Melee.

Pac-Man 2 was a fun silly game when I was young and I still have on it on the snes. Since I was young I found it humorous to see the mifortune that befalls Pac-Man if you fail to help him.

This was one of my first snes games as a kid due to its bargain bin status. I played this game to death and was constantly looking for different secrets and little things to interact with. I had a lot of fun with the game and thought it was pretty interesting but I can easily see why people didn't like it. It was one of those games for me where if a kid at school came up with some obscure rumor/cheat I'd totally believe it was possible

Pac-Man World Rally? Man, am I glad that I'm not the only one who remembers that game. Mario Kart may have started the kart-racing genre as we know it, but even that gets a little boring sometimes. I personally love a lot of the music, especially Cloud Garden and the remix of the original theme.

I loooooove Pac-Man 2! It's the only decent 16-bit point and click adventure that I know of. There is some replayability if you want to get 100% of secrets. There's a way to track your progress (hold a+c at the menu screen?). This game has so much personality, and unlimited lives give you opportunities to have fun with (torture) Pac-Man. As you can see I had nothing to learn from your review, but great job anyway.

@321cheeseman If you get stuck in the game, it can be both "frustrating" and "boring" at the same time. If not the exact same time, the moment the adrenaline rush dies because you KNOW you once again aren't going to make it any farther than last time in the game, the anxious frustration becomes bored resignation. Still, you make a valid point, "boring" was ultimately a poor choice (I was almost out of characters XD). "Tedious" might be a bit better, but still not quite right.
@Workingplayer5312 жыл бұрын
Everything is easier with save states. And it's actually possible to continue in the same world (press start+a after game over screen in the NES version) but it's still not as comfortable as in Lost Levels, I agree. But that's for a reason you know :) Anyway, that's what I think of it. Have fun! :D

@BotmanR i suppose toe jam and earl 2 was an above average platformer, but the original was really the only game of its genre i believe, i can't think of any similar games that allowed randomly generated levels with tons of powerups and split screen adventuring if you were playing 2 player

Earthbound was not unknown in the 90s. Nintendo Power subscribers at least knew of it, since the magasine made a pretty big deal about it. I don't know how many people actually played the game but we who grew up in the 90s at least recognised Ness as "that guy from that charlie brown game" when smash came out. At least in my circles.

@SmashLuigiFan1 Ya i guess the comparisons are all made on specs and preference, I guess you cant argue with opinion, I for example love the music in sonic, but I also love the music in chrono trigger so I am really indifferent on the sound quality of the systems.

I love your opening commentary. I've seen that to be the case of too many times when people had flawed expectations going in and that ruined the game for them. Specifically, a lot of the criticism of Zelda: Skyward Sword went along this route. Oh but it doesn't do this! Or it doesn't have this! I wish people could just put that aside and just try the game objectively.
@TheFinishSign13 жыл бұрын
@BobbyShyne Oh right where'd you learn that, the Irate Gamer's videos? I knew about where the American SMB2 came from since I was a kid. People call it SMB2 because that's what it was called in America. It wasn't a port of a game as they were released on the same console. It was a modification. There's nothing wrong with the American SMB2, and in fact it was localized in Japan as "Super Mario USA." I think it's more interesting than the Japanese SMB2 which was practically the same game.

Man, I would've loved this game back when I was a kid. Anything that allows you to interact with objects in the background was my favorite type of mechanic ever. But I was just never exposed to it. Pac-Man was never that popular in Ukraine to begin with, let alone any spinoffs, unfortunately.

I agree! I really like that game. It could have used a few more puzzles and rooms, sure. But it's one of the best looking games on that entire generation, the gameplay was very strong, the puzzles were fun and sometimes even a little challenging, (A little bit. Not a lot.) and the game's setting is one of the most immersive and atmospheric in the medium. It's a good game. Great game? No. Dark Moon is better. But damn it, Luigi's Mansion is a good game that gets a bad rap. And that's a shame.

Flawed Preconceptions. That's why people seem to hate Luigi's Mansion. Sure, it was short, but it was fun and a hell of a lot better than Mario is Missing. And GOOD GRIEF, the GameCube wasn't so bad! It has three of my favorite games of all time!
@SmashLuigiFan113 жыл бұрын
@XxVicistxX Really? Because this is one of my childhood games. I'd also like to mention I prefer the Genesis port just because the SNES sound just bothers me. It sounds like it echoes and Pac-Man sounds like a robot! His voice sounds funny in the Genesis version though. At least in my opinion.
@SonicTheJackrabbit10 жыл бұрын
My biggest complaint with this game is that it shouldn't have been called Pac-Man 2 here in the U.S. Techincally speaking, Ms. Pac-Man and to an extent, Super Pac-Man were both already "Pac-Man 2". They should have called it something else, perhaps "Pac-Land 2" to tie it in with that game as it shares a ton of similarities with it. Also the game was a bit too short, it would have been almost perfect if they added a few more tasks.
@jackiexkh8 жыл бұрын
As he said in the video, it was called "Hello! Pac-Man" in Japan, which is a title that fits WAY more than Pac-Man 2. The Pac-Man 2 title was only because they thought it would sell better.
@KamisamanoOtaku13 жыл бұрын
@BobbyShyne Plus Roo (and I am guessing most of his subscribers) are the exact kind of people who know that the U.S. game labeled Super Mario Bros. 2 was Doki Doki Panic with some alterations, and that the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 was what we later got as "The Lost Levels" in Super Mario All Stars. My experience is that most people like both versions equally or prefer the American version, just because the Japanese SMB2 feels almost boring in comparison. Weird>Boring 4 sequels
