I love outboards on canoes, I just mounted a 4hp Cukusin outboard on My 15ft Old Town Guide 158, I run Spring Creek outriggers on Lake Lewisville to help handle the wake and to fish off of, I love Your seats and the fact U have a backup electric trolling motor and dig how You have fortified the hull with pvc, sweet setup Man.

Thank you, sir. The PVC merely houses the wiring for the nav lights. :-) Enjoy

Pretty cool! Love your wife's attitude too - "we need a bigger boat ... you can park whatever the hell you want back there..." ha ha ha, love it! She's a keeper :-)

I had a 2 gallon tank for this setup. Running at 5 MPH fast idle one could probably leave the state if the river was long enough. Ha ha ha. I don't know but these engines sip gas. They have developed a formula for full throttle. I think it is HP divided by 12 for newer outboards and by 10 for older ones. So a 5HP outboard would burn about 1/2 per hour at full throttle. For a fast idle they will go a VERY long while. I hope this helps.

I used to live just off the ICW on Padre Island (Corpus Christi). As you well know you would need to take tidal flow into consideration. Where I was that could easily be a solid 3 MPH in spots. Ha ha ha. I have since upgraded to a 15' 1976 Aluminum Valco with a Merc 20HP. The girlfriend likes that one better but now she wants a full on deck boat! Gotta love her! Have fun shopping around.

I got myself a square stern canoe in early 2019. Had hella fun in the river on rafting trips...I shoulda never put my 5.5hp Evinrude on it, cause then I knew I needed a bigger boat... These canoes are fun tho! Gave me an idea for a project- canoe hull with a seadoo top fiberglassed on and a seadoo jet motor installed, so basically a longer seadoo, but should handle a lot different, hopefully in a fun way...I’m collecting pieces for it...

I run 9mph MAX with my 2.5hp 2 stroke, mounted on an old town discovery 158. I THINK you'll run about that speed give or take regardless of weight in the boat or power out back, within reason. Obviously 1000 lbs in the boat will run a little different than a single paddler, but I don't find my rig much slower if at all slower when loaded down vs me riding solo. Hull speed and the canoe in general has a lot to do with it, I'm no scientist, but I do know 2.5 will also run 9mph, loaded or empty.

that's awesome. i live in the intercoastal waterway in florida, so it changes from inland rivers like the st johns to small marsh cricks and shallow flats where you have to walk your canoe through. i guess all i need now is a pretty girl for the front of my canoe, i take it yours is spoken for lol. thanks for the info, very cool vid.

that would be the perfect bug out water vehicle, low hp motor, can paddle efficiently if need be, small enough to get in creeks, or pull it through shallows! what kind of range can you expect on that engine on a full tank appr. just keeping it going?

I just bout at 15’ squares turn Grumman. It’s rated for up to 5hp. What do you think? Should I got for a 5hp? What would a 2.6 be like ?
@WhitBoss11 жыл бұрын
She's a square stern canoe. They make side mounts but I'm not sure if they will handle 5HP.
@WhitBoss11 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the lakes and rivers you plan on taking it and how far you will need to travel. Trailer or car top? I really enjoyed the gas powered 5 HP.

What kind of mount do you have on that canoe. I have an old Mad River Duck Hunter canoe, and already own a mercury 5hp outboard for my sail boat. Would love to attach it to my canoe for duck hunting and exploring salt marshes and backwater fishing.

Nice video. I just bought a coleman canoe 16, and looking for the appropriate sized motor. If you could choose only one motor, what size would i be, an would it be gas/electric? Best regards from Sweden
@DanielSmith-bv5fq10 ай бұрын
Greetings from Orlando USA for Jon boats aluminum V hole boats and square back canoes 5 hp four stroke motor is your best choice. Why? Size matters especially when it comes to small boats; remember you’re probably going to be Carrying your motor in and out of the house/shed/broom closet when not in use to prevent unnecessary corrosion and theft. Heavy sucks and certainly is way less fun after a day of boating, easiest to carry yet still get you on a good plane-five is the way to go! A heavier fiberglass boat even if it’s small-same deal and you’re gonna want to double your horsepower to at least a 9.9 if you go wit the heavy fiberglass boat. 40 years of boating since I was 13 (Trust my experience, it won’t let you down

Would you need to get a buoyancy certificate for that canoe with it having an outboard on it?
@WhitBoss7 жыл бұрын
Great question and I have no idea.
@mikesanchezgsxr7 жыл бұрын
Joshua Cooke Depends on the state. In CA where I live anything with a motor on it has to (includes anything with a trolling motor as well), other states it depends on the length of the boat and/or it's top speed ability.
