Good info! An important feature not discussed is the ability of the catch basin to catch and hold debris in addition to catching and diverting water into the drain system. Debris always accompanies storm water and will accumulate in the bottom of the basin. The holding capacity of the basin below the outlet will affect frequency of maintenance. Failing to periodically clean out a catch basin could eventually lead to clogging issues inside the drainage system especially in applications where soil erosion is present. The capacity for holding debris is definitely something that should influence one's choice for a basin's design.

Thank you for the video Chuck! any tips for trying to use 3" ADS triple wall hdpe pipe with a 6" nds catch basin? The pipe fits in sloppy with 1/2 inch opening around where the basin and pipe meet. Seems like these nds basin's are designed mostly for corrugated pipe

Thanks for teaching us the importance of the catch basin. One concern I have is how to prepare a catch basin for an area that is 100% dirt and no vegetation. I'm working on a community RC track and 1 area collects water 1ft deep after the rain. Will all the loose dirt kicked up by cars turn into mud and clog the grate or pipe? Thanks!

I've been thinking about installing a few of these around my yard. Now, my yard doesn't have any standing water, even after a heavy heavy rain. However, my backyard has about an 8' slope dowards to a creek in the back. When it does rain, the water carves a path through the sand and washes more and more sand down the hill. I recently moved to this property and yes, I need to plant grass in order to try and keep my backyard from washing away. Would you suggest adding some catch basins like these in order to drain what water I can? Where my yard is grass (sod) its semi flat, but after where they sodded it, its all downhill.
