Present arms is only for the officer to inspect the rifle. (To show that there is no magazine inserted, the bolt locked in the back position, and to see through the magazine well, to make sure the firearm is clear for inspection). All of the drills are safety oriented. Parade arms is just to show that a person mastered their rifle drills, with all the choreograph involved.

If you do 16 count you would start with left shoulder arms. Otherwise, that would be 15 count manual of arms. It starts with right shoulder arms, Then left shoulder arms, then Poor arms, then present arms, then back to port and then back to full order.
@ACDKAOS11 жыл бұрын
The real way is 15 count manual arms. When you go from order arms to port in the beginning you don't go all the way to port. instead of putting your right hand on the pistol grip, you put in down at the butt plate and go straight to right shoulder

The man's execution of the commands are flawless, without hesitation, and his arms' positioning remained perfect each time. However, this is not 16-count manual arms with a rifle. 16 count manual arms is a sequence of all the movements : from attention to Port Arms to right shoulder arms to Port Arms to left shoulder arms, and so on until ending at parade rest. 16 movements. No, I cannot recall each one in order, and recite them verbatim but then again I'm 51 years old and that was 30 years ago or more LOL. But am I not right about that?
@Mike_V310 жыл бұрын
Im not saying your wrong, but when I do the rifle movements, right shoulder, left shoulder, present arms, ports arms and then order arms, all from order arms, I call it "15 count manual". And my rifle manual says so, but this is because we dont go to port arms from order arms.

On the second day of the Battle of Shiloh in the "Civil War", an Indiana colonel among Buell's (Union) men saw that his regiment [green recruits] was shaky in the face of resistance from the Confederates. The colonel "halted them, then and there, and put them briskly through the manual of arms...Considerably steadied, the Hoosiers resumed their advance." Shelby Foote, "The Civil War: A Narrative", vol. I, Fort Sumter to Perryville, page 346.
