I just love the way you present this game. I like the way you encourage everyone's creativity. I copied some of the buildings you proposed and stopped two weeks ago and started looking to build my own ideas. I waited without knowing that I needed to see such an episode to continue building. I know this is super late but I've been going through his videos looking for inspiration and the exact same thing happened to me. I built a couple things he did and afterwards decided to build some stuff in creative and got so many ideas and I've been building stuff ever since. I stopped playing the game for a while and now since I've been watching old stuff and trying new things out the ideas are happening like crazy

My rule with a build is that the environment makes the build look complete. The shape of the house can be fairly basic like your plan, as in its only some rectangles, with some details on the walls and roofs, but it’s the environment and natural details that make it stand out. Leaves and plants add so much colour to a build it instantly makes it nicer to look at. Small flower beds and ponds make it feel more like a lived in and thriving place, and vines make it look like it’s been there for a long time and not just something that has appeared there. You could even create a cliff with a small stream with lots of natural plants and that’s something I love to include. I can also say that experimentation is key, I have a super flat world where I just try stuff out, materials, shapes, details and so on, if it works I will keep it but if not then I just won’t do it again unless it happens to work in the build. For me the hard part is building something in survival and having the motivation to make big projects like villages.

I totally agree buddy, it's the small details and color that really make a build. Survival can be tough for motivation but one thing i've learned is to have several projects to go back and forth between so you don't get burned out on repetitive builds or styles. Taking a break to explore the world and do things like completing advancements is also another way to take a break from one project. This is always a great way to get motivated, but try to keep your projects different from each other. For example maybe so different styled towns so you don't have to continuously build in the same style, or maybe a different terraforming project or building a park, just give yourself as much variety as possible to keep you inspired to play. =)

That was a fantastic video in going over the entire process of getting the idea from your head out into Minecraft. I love the way you setup those textures before hand. I get caught a lot after the fact and the old scratch the head on well what should I use now LOL. Your pace and tone are very watchable, you have a plan and you understand what it is that you are trying to convey. You aren't trying to be cutesy nor are you trying to scream you way into people paying attention to you, it's like listening to an adult explain something. So many of the Minecraft content creators work at a frantic, break-neck pace that is unfocused, and it's hard to really learn anything from them. Great work, keep it up.

This video was extremely helpful and confidence boosting. Part of my trouble with building is just like you said in the video, trying to visualize the whole build details at all in one go, then getting upset with myself when things don't work out. I'm really going to try using that wool method, it just seems much easier using such bright contrasting colors to visualize different pieces and making things more simple. Again what I appreciate most about this channel is you take things slow, you help build a better mental picture for us viewers and I've never seen you present a full build without any context or process.

I developed my own style of texturing when doing your Medieval Castle Tutorial series, which consists of larger patches of the same bloc, integrated into other patches of the main block and 3rd complimentary block. I find it quite aesthetically pleasing for larger builds!

Great explanation! If I may add another tip: Even for a fantasy build, the layout should make sense in-universe. A flat stone ceiling would collapse, make a vault or use wood. If you have a big tower sitting on top of your building, it's walls need to extend all the way down to the actual ground. And consider making walls bearing heavy loads more then one block thick. It makes the build feel much more solid. And another one: Consider deliberate imperfections in patterns. Plans change, buildings get modified and people have priorities higher than perfect regularity. As an example, one of the buildings in the video had a facade divided into three block wide sections, but one of them was four blocks wide.

Videos like these are why I like this channel so much. It's advice that helps people grow especially when you can actually see the stuff happening instead of just being told. A lot of people, myself included, learn through visual stuff which is super helpful. I've also come to realize that I'm starting to enjoy more of being in creative mode better since while practicing building you can take a look back way easier and that helps a lot. I didn't like that realization at first since I've always been a survival player but once I started building a medieval dock in creative I got so many ideas just from stepping back and looking for places to put stuff like small rooms they'd use on the dock for storage and then seeing an area I could put a small restaurant embedded into an open spot for the dock workers to eat at or for people coming in by ship. It's amazing the ways you can find inspiration and this channel has been one of mine for a long time

Okay this is actually genius with the concept art idea. I always struggle coming up with ideas for medieval style builds cause that's my absolute favorite style and when you said look at concept art I went and did that and found at least 30 images I loved so I saved them. This works doubly well since I'm trying to learn how to build in general and having something to look at and practice building is gonna help tremendously with that. I'm always watching hermitcraft and wondering how they got so good at building and I bet they did something similar. Just practicing a lot will improve what I want to do

Hi! I’m looking for some block suggestions. I’m making an elven style house, heavily inspired by amethyst crystals. My bottom floor walls are made mainly of black stone bricks and my second floor is made of spruce logs / wood and similar blocks. There are several amethyst / obsidian / crying obsidian decorations in the build, too. But I’ve got no clue what block palette to do for the roof. My other walls are quite dark, and I’m not sure going with a lighter roof is the way to go. Would it be bad to reuse the blocks from the first floor for the roof? Any suggestions help, thank you!!

For new builders make sure and make the frame a little bigger than you anticipate. It will let the house breath better when you do a full on interior

Nice. I don't have the dedication to Minecraft you have, but Pinterest and a background in art and construction+farming+permaculture went a long way. The world my brother and I started on OG Xbox 360 edition is still around, still updating, and full of castles and towns built by my friends and I. It's got temples, hidden ruins, bits of lore and secret locations hidden in books, not to mention trap rooms and puzzle rooms and bears oh my. And with my young cousin's help, it now has some functioning redstone/command gates, fountains, etc. But there's no end... It's infinite.

I think the big part is your own practice, if you will just build build and build, and think about details in buildings, you will become better at building
