Fun story, my friend I have known for 27 years is the owner of our local LGS. Before he opened his own store, he ran it out of the back of the RadioShack we both worked at. We were having the pre release for Worldwake back in 2010. Everyone was wanting to pull Jace. 25 total players in attendance. My first pack I opened had not only a Jace the Mind Sculptor, but also had a foil copy as well... those were the only 2 pulled the entire event despite going through several boxes during the event. As always Joey, love the openings.

My favourite pull is my foil zacama, worth only around 100 but I love that card so much. I always loved the ixalan block as it was when I first really started playing, and I would always buy packs at my lgs up to very recently when they ran out. So me and my brother bought a couple packs with out friends then went back to my friends place to play, we cracked a couple and didn’t get anything, then my brother opened one and started freaking out, the funny part is he had no idea he had pulled something even remotely cool, and was just kinda messing with us, then I looked at what he got and realized he had gotten the foil of the best mythic in the set. I’ve pulled a decent amount of other cool stuff but I loved how my brother tried to mess with us an accidentally got the best card from the set.

My glory days: in the mid to late 90’s. My elder brother and I bought Enfield 350cc Bullets (1950’s motorbikes) in Delhi India 🇮🇳and travelled the whole country from the Himalayas, to the deserts, to the beaches and jungles for years. We were known as the Vikings as we both have long blonde hair. We went on to travel throughout Asia and Australia, but it came to an end when my brother was banned from most of the Western world for 5 years.....but that’s a story for another day ☠️

Here is my story and I sometimes still cry over watching this. Way back when I got into magic at the end of unlimited and start of revised, my friends and I were walking into the local shop. There was a guy out front that had a bag of stuff at the tables out front where folks played. He had been to a local close out store and found 110 beta starter decks. Yes thats right I said 110. He had only paid 1 dollar a deck. Now while magic was still pretty new, even I knew he had found something special back then. Well he was debating on opening them or saving them. Now I did not know this guy, but I piped up and told him, if it was me I would go in the store, sell 5 decks and get my money back and then sit on the other 105. Like folks used to do on unopened baseball cards. Well this guy was really itching to open them and get some power 9 action. So regardless of me and my friends telling him to wait he sat at one of the tables and opened all 110 boxes. So as it happened he got 0 power 9 out of 110 boxes. It was like watching a train wreck. I have no idea now if he got any dual lands, I am sure he did but I dont remember. I do remember me and my friends went all over town looking at closeout stores and other places praying we could get that lucky, but we did not. Sometimes I don't know if I should laugh or cry at the memory of this guy doing that.

Innistrad was printed a decade ago. Most of the boxes were opened a decade ago. Because it was a great set to draft, there are fewer and fewer left unopened each year. Pricing has nothing to do with hoarders or the price of the cards inside. It ONLY has to do with scarcity of unopened boxes. People want to draft that set.

@@RealFeelsTrip I 100% agree with your thoughts on scarcity for sure. I have 1 box that I will keep sealed myself from a collection standpoint, but cases upon cases are being kept. This is in addition to this being a highly drafted set. The OG sets are always going to be the most sought after for draft or openings. The value of any box though doesn't come close to the value pulled because so many "collectors" are keeping them close to their chests. That really is the sad reality. This has really created a demand on the set, hence driving the price higher than what comes out.

Story Time: Once when i was a 6 year old kid I pulled an awesome foil charizard card with my dad reading the cards out one my one. Was a great moment. And a kid down the street said he would give me his scratched up charizard and 5 extra energy's for my card. I thought hey, I'm getting extra energies out of this. Not knowing anything about value in cards I traded them. I showed my dad and he knew I got blasted, but the kid already "sold it" so... i regret that to this day.

I agree 100% with you on the prices of these older sealed products, it's insane. Even if you pulled all the chase cards in the set it's not even half of what you would pay for this sealed product. That's like selling a 100$ bill in a sealed box for 400$ it makes no effin sense

Glory day story: when I was a kid my dad had multiple sealed booster boxes of Magic the Gathering on the shelf inside of his closet including an Unlimited booster box. Convinced him to let me open the boxes and from the Unlimited box I pulled a Mox Emerald. Since I was just a kid and didn't keep proper care of it, the Mox Emerald has been lost with time, but my mom swears she still has it somewhere. When I first pulled it as a kid, it was worth like $50 or something. It's probably bent and stained to hell covered in dust somewhere, but one day I'll find that damn Mox Emerald.
