I just want you to know just how much this channel inspires me. As someone who's not that good at building in Minecraft and only can play Minecraft on PE, this channel has given me that extra boost I need to move closer to my dream of building a city in Minecraft. Also, you don't have to but can you make a video on how you don't get overwhelmed with all the ideas and such? Thank you and keep up the good job!
@Alpine13 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad to hear that! I started playing Minecraft on pocket edition back in 2012 because I didn’t have a computer, I know it’s tough but it’s still a lot of fun! I might make a video about how I actually organize city planning, but it’s mostly just drawings of road & transit plans, different areas with different styles and a big long list of buildings that I want to make

Hey Matt, your vids appeared in my recommended one day and i cant stop watching them. So pretty, so inspirational and informative. However, i noticed you use a resource pack most of the time, and i'd be interested in how this build project would look in vanilla mc

I had a pretty huge city I worked on for many months, but the files were accidentally deleted when I did a hard reset on my PC. But now I realize how much more I could've done for realism, like elevation changes. Thanks for inspiring me to start again!

R&R, I hope you were able to continue your inspiration with a new Minecraft project. Er'body knows how it feels to lose something we've worked lots of time and energy into. Best wishes, R&R Studios. :)
@LukewarmFoxxo2 жыл бұрын
I had started on a really promising city, but due to the fact that I was using a non-Vanilla world generator and copying the world over and over, Vanilla world generation ruined a lot of the city. I've since started a new one, and used Worldedit's schematic system to import the surviving parts of the city to the new one. By far not as bad as your situation, but I was still rather frustrated.

This isn't just good architect/minecraft design advice-- it's good level design! Namely in non-combat/gameplay-centric areas like hub cities or open-world sprawls. The kind of places you want to EXPLORE without feeling like you're going on a tour or just thrown into some giant mess. Mobility, visibility, details, tone, etc. is all covered in these tips you give in some way or another. Truly INSPIRING! My buddies are gonna end up seeing me try to build weirdly realistic multi-story buildings in our server now lol

Great video, your city looks absolutely stunning, great job. My biggest tip for people starting a minecraft city aside from elevation changes like you mentioned would be including lots of curves and irregularities in your road network. Obviously plan your road network well so that it suits your cityscape, but stay away from a flat 1 plane layout with roads all laid out in grids, thats how 90% of people starting out make their cities and it doesnt have much character. Have bends, overpasses, tunnels, cul-de-sac's etc. Asymmetric road networks are more interesting and realistic in my opinion :)

Hey Alpine, as a urban planner, what you prefer, a wide road for cars or a wide "pedestrian and bicycle friendly" Road but narrow cars way. Because is actually a new trend on Europe to do like "diet private vehicle" So they reshape their road and city like that.

You said in one of your videos, "have lots of detail in an 8 chunk render distance" ... is that about how big one "downtown city block" should be? 128 dirt blocks? Or how big do you think both city and suburban blocks should generally turn out to be? Or does it not matter because they are all going to be different ... or maybe I should ask how wide the buildings need to be, and about how many I should have in one city block?? Thank you. =)
