Greetings from Canada. Enjoy your content. I have the same power supply (firmware current to the device's hardware version, i.e., v3.0). In CC mode, the slave display (CH2) is indicating measurably less current output than the master. Putting an ammeter on a load confirms that the current output for both channels - regardless of their values - are summed or combined (so the 'total' is accurate) - it's just that they aren't 'balanced'. It seems that this difference is much more pronounced at lower currents, e.g., charging a 12V SLA battery, where the difference is 60% or more. Using load resistors and higher currents, the difference between the two channels lessens to about 20% but, again, the two outputs combined accurately represent the current being consumed. Not sure what to make of it as this is not the same as your demonstration. Thank you for your informative videos.

Hallo! , yes i noteced that too, in some firmware versions it was balanced, later is took more power from the 1st channel and i have also seen in some versions it takes first the full power form the first and the extra from the 2nd. i do not remember which fw version did what. but the total current is correct in the end.

Wow, I have had my 3303 for several years and did not know about the OCP feature. It is not in my owners manual. I want to charge two LiPo batteries with the PSU and I have been trying to learn how to set a low-end current cut-off limit. I was thinking that I would have to use EasyPower, but it appears from your video that I might be able to just use the OCP function... Let's see if I have this correctly... My batteries are the GB/T 18287 type. I have bypassed their internal charging boards. Let's say that the stated working voltage is 3.7V, the charge voltage is 4.3V, a safe charging current of 1A and the cutoff current is 200mA - all from the batteries' data sheet. I use the two PSU channels independently. I set both channels' voltage to 4.3V. I set the constant current to 1A. I set the OCP to 200mA. The current and voltage will automatically adjust. And, the OCP will turn off the charge cycle, when the current charging rate drops to 200mA. Correct? I sure hope so. Setting up the computer would be a hassle, for just charging batteries. Thank you for all that you do for us! Yes, I know that I can buy a cheap charger, but I am using this to learn about the PSU.

I have watched the video again and, no, the OCP does not set the lower current turn off limit. The OCP works as you describe, in that it shut off the current supply, when the previously set upper current limit is reached. So, that leaves my question of how to set a lower current threshold?
@TonyAlbus
@TonyAlbus 4 ай бұрын
Sorry it works different.. CC will lower voltage to keep the current. OCP will act as virtual fuse and shutdown channel. so in your case over 200mA it will shutdown… not below

@@TonyAlbus Yes, you are correct. So, I am back to investigating if I can possibly set a lower current limit with the EasyPower program.

Just seeing what the firmware update actually was, since I got a 3303X a few days ago. Interesting to see it side-by-side with that other beastly supply, used to have one like it years ago (they must be rebranded by dozens of companies).

lol, I bought it thinking it was one of the few Siglents that couldn't be hacked. Deep diving into eevblog suggests I'm wrong about that. Still, being a simple power supply, it's less than $200 wasted [edit: although I think you might miss a digit on the display of lower model, not sure about that, seems like it has the higher resolution in remote mode even without hacking firmware]. And for the performance gains from hacked SDG2000X & SDS2000X+... that's worth $thousands. I'm a hobbiest, and Siglent is the best gear around, if you're willing to play the risk/reward game.

Great review, Tony. I have been eyeballing this power supply for a few months now, in fact. If it is of any interst to you, I read a post on the EEVblog Forum describing how to update the SPD3303X-E to the higher resolution non-E version. Not sure how you feel about that type of hacking but it is possible.

Hi MFR! Thank you, yes it is a cool machine :).. and yes i have seen that post, very interesting, only i would be a bit scared to just load firmware from a stranger... then the post of the guy who loaded somehow via the debugger the original firmware, would be nice to try if i know how... but as long it still has warranty i will use EasyPower app that is also give you 1mV even though it does not show it in de software or device-display, it will do it :)

Hi, I've got the question to SPD3303X-E (SPD3303X) owners. Have you tried applying latest firmware? In my case I was able to do so, but after upgrade every time I power SPD3303X-E on - I hear clicking relays. Meaning - my relays will gradually wear out. So, I am planning to revert to older firmware. Anyone else experienced relay issues after firmware upgrade? BTW, OCP works.

Yes i have the same, also i found after i made the video, that in parallel-mode.. all the current goes first from the master and then when the current limit is reached the slave helps, while in the old firmware it was equally distributed,over master and slave as you expect, i made a support ticket for that right then, i guess they are working on it.

In your video you said that the update over usb also failed, so I was wondering if you have any tips or tricks to recover the unit?

NI Visa is terribly bloated. A requirement to use such an ancient version of it is really odd and might lead to compatibility issues with other measurement devices, which will expect much newer versions of it. I've had a lot of bad experience with the NI Visa framework. It's less known, but Agilent also have their own Visa framework, which I've found much easier and reliable to use.
