The rules by which points are awarded are beyond me, i could swear several of them landed clean strikes on each other

Your footwork, strike and the kiay need to represent your intention to strike. If your edge is off, your footstomp is badly timed, your posture is off, you dont get awardet a point. Its not suppose to be flashy, but it has to be perfect for it to be considerd an ippon. I like to think of this video more as an exsibition with high intensity.

Ken, ki, tai. Your sword, energy, and body must all be in sync at the point of impact. Mitsuke, your focus. Must be laser like with a loud kiai that Carrie’s throughout.
@@Geirofficialyoutubechannel The referee is not a Japan-favourite. I saw Italy and it was the same then. Both Japan and Korea were saved by misjudgments and cried over misjudgments of valid strikes. If anything, he seems to favor Korea.

@@user-gh1nb1oj9b FIK referees are a joke how much do you think their looking skills are developed in such places Kendo is not much grown. None. So please watch the entire game from the beginning and then try to refute it.

@@game_play_League I watch every match. It is true that the referees are inexperienced. But the conditions are the same in both countries. Have you ever seen All Japan Kendo? All Japan referees are very strict. Just hitting the target is not a valid strike. Korea is full of tsubagakure, striking from close range without pausing, and you cannot win with zanshin, a form of kendo in which there is no zanshin. The general match was like a kakari-geiko. In their haste to win, they seem to have forgotten the essence of kendo.
