Don't you need a resistor from the VCC to the LED pins on the LCD? Otherwise too much current and it will blow the LCD no? I put 500K ohm between this and LCD works fine as you say.

Many LCDs have inbuilt resistor. If you add no issues..

Best method for such problem will be to tighten or loosen the screw behind the i2c module in a small blue box(potentiometer of display) it will change the contrast of display due to high or low contrast these boxes appear. This solved my problem hope will solve yours also

Sir, I am facing an issue with my 16x2 LCD display. I am using I2C with the LCD, but I cannot see the output after adjusting the potentiometer. There is a power voltage issue because the white box lines are not displaying properly after reaching the limit of the potentiometer

Hi I have the same issue. However, I am using CubemX Uvision STM32F103C8T6 mp i checked all solderings and they are looking good. Also, I am using 10k potentiometer when i increase the pot level white squares are going but when i decrease the pot level white squares are appearing on my LCD. What can be the issue ? Note : by the way i am using another psu for LCD, GND's are interconnected.
