Read the manual and refer to it for anything you are not sure of. Watch your needle positions when changing a foot so you don't break a needle.

Great tips. These will definitely make my sewing more enjoyable but I’m a little mad because they’re so common sense and I never thought of them. Genuine thanks.

When I started quilting, I used the edge of my standard presser foot as a seam guide for months before realizing it was not a 1/4 inch. I only discovered this because my quilt blocks were not turning out to be the right size and the piecing was off.

I'm 15 and I'm making my first dress by myself rather than my grandma helping me. Im making a 1960s dress since it's a simple pattern. And watching this video helped a lot so thank you 😊😊

Awesome you're getting into sewing and hope the dress turns out well! Although sewing with your grandma sounds like a lot of fun! Learn as much as you can from her.

I like the idea of using glue for basting instead of basting stitches. How long does it take to dry?

Pretty immediate once you hit it with a dry iron

How do you keep fabric like organza from slipping around? Working on a cosplay skirt and have resorted to hand sewing as I cannot get it to lay still on my table
@scorpio-interrupted35164 жыл бұрын
Ok. I'm a newbie. Like never touched a sewing machine in my life. Found one on marketplace for 40 bucks and thought what the heck. I have no idea how to sew. Like where do you put the material? How do you stay in a straight line? How do you cut the thread when you done? There are tons of bobbin videos but that's where everybody stops and just starts sewing but no info on it. Please help.

Everything goes in the wash or to the dry cleaners as soon as it gets home. I once didn’t prewash a printed knit. Guess what? The dye ran, and my dress was ruined.

Don't you mean "seamstress" not "sewist"? lol
@dale34044 жыл бұрын
Sewing is a generic term. Seamstress is feminine.

Recently got a Brother cs7000i sewing machine, I upcycled my fiancé’s flannel to make our daughter a fall dress, used her old baby towels that she outgrew to make her rags, and made her a small purse. I recently became a stay at home mom, I was a pediatric nurse, to homeschool my children and it’s so exciting to have a hobby to play with. 🧵

Such useful information here. Though I'm not really a stranger to sewing on a machine, I consider myself a beginner, and, I agree with you about starting with easy projects. TYSM for sharing your knowledge with us.

I cleaned out dust bunnies from bobbin area, since then my fabric seems to what to move or pucker. I have not changed any setting and I am working with the singer patchwork 7285Q. I am new at this but cannot find anyone to help me figure this out. Even went to Singer Co, no help at all. Any ideas??

Great tips! I feel like "seamstress" is a swearword these days. What a shame! Surely 99% of sewers are female. Feminine titles lovely, in my opinion, and they seem to be dying out. (This coming from a 31 year old - maybe I was born in the wrong time)
@PinkTigger33 Жыл бұрын
It does feel that "seamstress" is a bad word now. Men that sew are called tailors. Women are called seamstresses or dressmakers. It feels like identifying as any gender these days is looked down upon. Sewist makes sense in that it is more inclusive because it does not indicate a gender or an age. I just got back into sewing after a long hiatus, so long that the term "sewist" is new to me. I'm going to refer to myself as a sewing designer.

I have a questions: 1.Is seam allowance important? Sorry...My English sucks😂
@SewingReport3 жыл бұрын
It is if you are following a pattern or tutorial because that can affect how it comes together and the finished size.

Very helpful and practical. I have a walking foot that came with my machine but didn't understand what it was really for. I will definitely be using it now. Thanks☺️

When sewing cotton one of the first things a sewer should do I’d to find the true grain of the fabric. If one has trouble with stretching when sewing it is because the fabric grain was not used. Also, know that many fabrics are not rolled onto the bolt by the grain.
