17 y/o Wiener Dog Happy as Ever

Rough cut video of Pogo in his last days. He was fully deaf and ~80% blind. Today (April 15th, 2013) would have been his 17th birthday. He passed away 2 months ago and I miss him more than anything. He was the happiest little thing. I made this for my family.

Our 19 year old Dachshund Rascal got her wings last week. She passed peacefully in her sleep with her family nearby. Rascal and I where inseparable. I miss her more then words can describe. ❤

James Johnson, that had to have been hard to do. As I lay next to my 2 year old doxie I can't imagine the pain in your heart having to put down your puppy. We've had to put down our 13 year old Westie and I cried at work for a week and still cry to this day even though she's been gone 10 years. May they all be in puppy heaven!!

Victoria Legg I had a Dachshund and I think he died from heart failure, he did have a murmur when he was younger that he fainted from, when he died his breathing wasn’t good and he held his head up gave out a whimper and fainted, could this be “congestive heart failure, was yours like this? My boy Joey was almost 14. He has been gone for a year and I miss him terribly, he looked just like Pogo. He ran away in a thunderstorm and was missing for 3 years. He was back with me for 3 years before he died. I never gave up when he went missing, thank goodness for microchips.

Our senior rescue “Josey” came to us 5 years ago, we had to guesstimate her at 12 years old then. She was “Daddy’s girl” all the way, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge two months ago. Her legacy for us was to arrange for the adoption of two more rescues, a pair of senior boys, bonded pair, one deaf and blind, the other going blind, and the meds and arthritis relief injections they will need, all that we gladly take on so that they too will have known unconditional love when the bridge gets crossed.

I had my PJ for 15 1/2 years. Doxies are the best. He developed a brain tumor and we had to put him to sleep. It was one of the saddest days of our lives. My husband and I cried for that dog for weeks. We had to get another one, because my husband just missed him too much. They definitely bring so much life and happiness

I had a Mini Dachshund named Lucky, he was only eleven. He damaged his spine because he loved to run and chase squirrels. His last day was April 8th of this year, 2017. I fixed his breakfast and he always ate outside, he wanted to eat outside because he loved the morning air, Instead of eating he spotted a squirrel and ran down the font porch steps and then collapsed, he jumped up and started crying and running in a circle , I thought he broke his leg, but we took him to a veterinarian that was open for emergencies . The veterinarian was a kind man and told us Lucky damaged his entire spine and would have to be operated on. It would have cost us over four thousand dollars and we couldn't afford to get the operation and then, if we could have got the surgery, he would have been unable to walk again and we would have had to make him poo and pee using our hands. My mother decided that Lucky needed to be out of severe pain. You were lucky to have Pogo for 17 years. I know it's been four years but you still miss him.

Sheri451 so very sorry about your. Beautiful lil baby... My Raven had the same thing happen but it was her running on Hardwood floor. She had surgery In April of 2017 and still can not walk yet...she had back surgery but neurologist has hope. She goes now to water hydrotherapy and cool laser treatment....we also take her to accupuncture...we have to pee/poop her by hand....it's her back legs only And she is pogessing slowly but still with us... Only 4 yrs old....so couldn't put her down.. .she is stll one happy baby....!!! My deepest condolences on yours....♡♡♡ W

This happened to my buddy joe when he was 15 i was in the shower and my ex ran in to tell me he put buddy over the baby gate and he thinks he is dieing..... I ran out and my baby was just crying it was obvious he was not gently set over the gate and his back was hurt being 19 living on my own i did not have the money to take him into the vet but i did know an amazing chiropractor who worked with people but also knew how to treat dogs. So i called and he snuck us in the back door her adjusted buddys back within a week buddy was back to normal and totally out of pain he lived to be 17 but lost his life to diabetes rip my best friend

Oh my goodness... Old video but I just found it... I lost my own sweet Dachshund, Pepper, a few months ago. She was just shy of 17 and your little Pogo reminded me so much of my little Pepper. She was a mini red who had turned white in the face just like him, she was blind and mostly deaf, but still happy too! She managed to follow me around the house, no problem... Always under food, barking for attention... Still killing squeaky toys until nearly the end... I love seeing other peoples' happy Dachshunds, and the peoples' love for them so much!

My “BoBo” Spike was a rescue Doxie too, with many heath issues . I had to lay him to rest after 9 years. I believe he was close to 12 years old. I still haven’t gotten over losing him,it’s been about four years now. After adopting him, if I was to get another “Doxie” it would be the same breed❣️🇨🇦

Very cute, my doxxie is probably close to 16, we are not sure as he was adopted. He sleeps alot but loves to play, and will still chase and bring back the frisbee, a bit slower now but loves it. He also chases the red laser diode. Sorry about your pup passing away, we love them till the end, and they love us unconditionally.

We have a 17 year old miniature dachshund. We got her when she was 3 months old. Having as much fun with Rascal at 17 as we ever had .We appreciate every moment we have with her. She is very happy and well loved.

Ive had several "weiner" dogs including two mixed, and the dachsund gene has been strong in both. One lived to 16 1/2, a nasal tumor killing him, the other is a chi-weenie still living with me. They are fantastic, loyal, loving and feisty. I am sorry for your loss but glad you had 18+ years of love.

Looks like my doxies that lived for 17 and half years. Her last 2 weeks were really painful for family to go through but she deceased naturally in peace. After a shower, she enjoyed sun then was in my arms while she decided to let it go.

Insane Logic best of luck to you when it does happen. I’m such a baby, I cried off and on for a month when my dog of 17+ passed on and when our cat of 15 yrs left us...I didn’t grieve that way when my own dad died...there’s something wrong with that.

Insane Logic I am with you. My Dachshund Tootsie Belle will be Sweet 16 this July 25th. She's a standard size chocolate & tan. I've had her since she was 5 1/2 weeks old. She's my only fur baby & the only one that's been all mine in my adult life. She's been with me thru so much, including my divorce, many moves & my diagnosis of incurable illness. Oh how wonderful. This gives me hope that my little old man is just in middle age (will be 10 in a couple of weeks). Although he has Cushing's disease and Bell's palsy and just recently got over a bout with vertigo, he seems to almost be back to his old self since we have in on the Cushing's med that he'll need the rest of his life. Also have an 8 yr old piebald and a 6 yr old longhair....they are siblings to a 6 yr old Weimaraner/Lab mix who takes excellent care of his "babies"! Yes we have a full house and a huge fenced yard for lots of love and smiles all day long!! Having become disabled and giving up my truck driving job these guys are my reason for getting up every morning!! They're so funny when Dad comes home (he still drives truck) because they know they won't get to share bed with Mom for a couple of days, lolol but when he leaves it's one big puppy pile on my bed and yes they try they're darndest to push me outta bed!!!

Mine was 10 days away from being 15 years old. 5 days before Christmas (2017) we had to put her down. She had cancer and was 1/2 deaf. She was incredibly strong. Just less then a few hours she took a sharp turn for the worse. I'm so incredibly depressed and thinking about suicide a lot. She was more then a dog to me.

Very sweet video. I'll be thrilled for my 3 rescued doxies to reach 17. They are my first 3 dogs and are 9, 12 and 12. Your younger one has a gorgeous coat.
