@@f18forlife72 I mean I think it is a joke, as it is clearly supposed to be funny, but they're also making an actual point. You can very clearly see that the props stop INSTANTLY when the plane lands. Why and how, since that's not something they are able to do on their own? Well, they slammed into the ground, since without the landing gear there is not enough clearance for the props to stay clear of the ground. Also the props are super bent after they stop. I have reached the end of my actual knowledge/common sense, and I don't know if that's how they're supposed to be, but idk maybe they were bent like that from the impact on the ground? Like they were spinning with enough power, but they couldn't cut through the ground, so the weak point ended up being the tensile strength of the blades and so they each got bent as they were rotated into the ground? I'm not sure. But regardless it seems very clear that the propellers are going to be very messed up, and presumably the engine which is mechanically linked to them probably isn't feeling to great after that either.

Her life isn't really on the line. Gliders for example don't have landing gear and make these landings (and even if they do, the wings will still scrape the ground). Plus, if she screws up the landing she can always go around and try again, gliders only have one shot to land since they aren't powered. So really this is just a normal landing with a difficulty tweak.

I love the way aviators approach safety, & handle a crisis. Their egos immediately go out the window & everyone pulls together to get the plane on the ground as quickly as possible with as little loss of life as possible. There was one guy on the radio with her, but he was just the radio man for a whole team of people that worked out the best way to guide her down safely without her gear. There is already a set of best practices in place for a gear up landing, aviators know it is possible, so they have to prepare for how to handle it. All of this so that even a student can do it safely with the proper CRM so to speak. Mad respect to aviators in general, & this girl in particular, I’d go for a ride in her plane anytime. Aviation is one of the only professions that really is something if meritocracy in so far as having merit alone won’t get you to the top, but lacking merit will cause you to only be able to go so far no matter how well connected you are because you could be a safety issue. There are many, many people working in offices, service industry jobs, education, factories, restaurants, etc, who have been able to fake their way through despite not really knowing how to do their jobs correctly, but aviation is designed to prevent & ensure that everyone participating in the operation of the aeroplane knows how to do their job well, & has successfully completed some pretty serious training. This system ensures that situations like a wheels up landing end like this, rather than in a fireball & tragedy, whenever the aeroplane is structurally sound & fully functional apart from the gear malfunction, & capable of surviving the forces of landing that is. This is what it’s all about, this is why they are so stringent about safety, & employ so many preparedness checklists & put so many systems in place as a result of a century of learning from mistakes, so that Maggie could go home that night & have dinner with her loved ones. Hell yea, man, this just makes me happy. Mad respect for Maggie, & all the people in the tower who helped this student pull this off. You guys help me not totally lose my faith in humanity. I can keep justifying it to myself with people like you guys around, but idk what I’d do without you, lol.

No she was not calm. @@RoseyCakess I did not try to demean her feat, which she actually pulled off quite well. I was just pointing out that she sounded rather uncomftable in the situation and a bit stressed out. Not exactly what I would call being calm. But she managed to realise the seriousness of the situation she was in, and accepted all the help she could get from the ground, in order to prevent it from getting even worse. She managed to pull herself enough toghether, with the assistance of her instructor that handled the situation excelently, and told her all the right things at the right time, so she could make a good landing. Incel? how about you hold a bit back with the insults? Those rarely do anything good for you. Especially when you get what I was saying wrong, they seem a bit out of line. Attacking someone as the fist option, when they point out a minor mistake you made in order to help you learn, is, in my experience not the best strategy. Insults won't make you look superior, but rather pathetic and insulting someone certainly does not make you look calm and in control of your feelings.
