I found about Focus, as a rock band 40 years ago in my youth. It’s 2022, and I am still listening. An excellent guitar player!

I have always argued with my Dad over this song (on the record) where he does the volume swells. My Dad has been a session music since the mid 60's and still works on TV incidental music. He said he did the swells using his little finger on the volume. I maintained that he would have used a volume pedal. This video didn't help but I looked it up and it says on some sites that he played a Strat but when he did the swells he used a Les Paul as the Volume control was nearer his hand (and used a treble boost to get a Strat sound). This makes no sense. The volume control on a Strat is far nearer your hand than on a Les Paul and a Les Paul has 2 volume controls which would mean he could only use one pick up. Does anyone happen to know how he does that sound?

yep little finger round the volume, I took the idea and used it on my Telecaster for years, I did a gig recently and a guy said I like the Joe Bonamasa volume control licks. I said I nicked that from Jan Akkerman in the 70's and he asked who? I said just check him out he's a genius.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1957 I guess ?
@rexterrocks9 жыл бұрын
+Annemie Devos It's def a LP custom. It's not his usual 'live' one. He was one of the first people to have a 'signature ' guitar. It was made by Framus. He has an amazing collection.

Re FOCUS: two geniuses in the one band seldom work (clash of the titans etc).. Jan Akkerman, the jazz guitar player vs the musical keyboard virtuoso, Thijs Van Leer........ The name of the game is entertainment & in my opinion, Thijs Van Leer wins every time. No one cares about how fast you can shred a guitar solo & most audiences just want a unique musical experience...........The original FOCUS provided this. Jan Akkerman shot himself in the foot by leaving FOCUS.

seems to be missing one vital part. this is like pulling a fish out of the ocean that got all eaten up on the way up before pulled from the water. Old Jan Baby needs to partner with someone to write some good new music. His band stuff is lacking melody, just substitute keerap. I still love him and am thankful for his good work. He ought partner with some d&b vocal guys out of London, give Skibadee a call. That would require effort, though.
