I'm attempting paint carving and want to see if I can make my acrylics go further by adding a paint medium, like a texture or gel medium. Do you have any recommendations? Would something like glue work?
@UnboundedArtandCrafts8 ай бұрын
Please don't add anything to them as it makes the texture softer and then impossible to do the carving. What kind of acrylic paint are you using? As you need a specific one like the one I show in the video. The ones in the tubes won't work.

@@UnboundedArtandCrafts experimenting with the cheapest possible brands at the moment. Will probably flop but here goes. I'll look out for the tinned brands tho
@UnboundedArtandCrafts8 ай бұрын
@litterbugger I hope it works for you ❤️ I tried all the kinds and tested for a year and still came to the conclusion that you really need the "All purpose Indoor Outdoor Acrylic Paint" in a can. Mine costs about €7 a can so that's not too bad. In the end it would have been so much cheaper to just buy the right paint than spend months painting layers and letting the paint cure for it not to work.

Do I have to buy it in the can? Like do the big bottles of acrylic paint at Walmart In the art section? Or is it a specific kind
@UnboundedArtandCrafts2 жыл бұрын
@Jaden Green it's not craft Acrylic it's Multi purpose interior/exterior Acrylic Paint and as far as I know (I'm in the Netherlands) it comes only in cans. Hope this helps?

Do you mix water in this paint?
@UnboundedArtandCrafts2 жыл бұрын
@Herriette no this isn't paint pouring, for layering the paint to carve you use it straight out of the can.

Hi, great video! One question, What is the ratio of paint layers. How many layers for each color?
@UnboundedArtandCrafts2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, thank you ❤️☺️ That totally depends on you and your design. For something simple with one color I would do about 40 layers and a top coat. But again totally up to you to find out as my paint could be thicker or thinner than yours. Or you might carve deeper or shallower than me... To many variables to just give you a straight number 😅 It took me a lot of studies and tries to figure out on my own what works best. And all I can recommend is start simple and go from there.

Dear Sharmeen, I recommend using a wooden base instead if canvas as it's way easier to carve. I have been using canvas as that was what I had.

Is it possible to do this with normal acrylic paint? I want to try this out, but I don't have the money to buy big tins of paint
@UnboundedArtandCrafts2 жыл бұрын
Dear Kilian, what kind of acrylic are you talking about? If you are going to layer a board you will need a lot of paint, this technique is unfortunately not cheap 😅
@Emm_Er2 жыл бұрын
What brand do you normally use? And did you not like it, or were you trying this new one out just to see if this might be better?
@UnboundedArtandCrafts2 жыл бұрын
The one I show is the one I always use. The one I'm layering in the board is a test on which a future video will follow with the results.

@@UnboundedArtandCrafts I wonder if I packed the back of the canvas tight to make it more solid...hhmm.. i.ll try on a small one, or go looking in hubbies garage. I live rurally so there are no shops. Also I note about the satin exterior paint... which I can,t get either. I paint pour, so might experiment with my additives to acrylic paint too. You have totally inspired me. Thank you soo much. I have subscribed so will watch your others. I have covid right now, so once I.m better xx

Get well soon 🌹 The piece I'm layering in this video is a canvas and I'll be making a video on the process as it's a test 😉 As it's hard for me to get proper material too for various reasons. I have used pouring acrylic too but it doesn't really work other than as a color additives to the acrylic house paint. If you still want to try make sure it's fully fully cured and not a matt paint.
