Best season of SYTYCD - loved every episode (followed closely by Season 3 and then Season 4). Don't know what happened to the show but the last few years I haven't even watched it after the first two or three episodes. Benji was amazing! He, Danny and Mark were the best of the best.

I never get tired of watching this it's absolutely fantastically amazing! I don't think there has been another routine of this caliber on the show since. lacey, benji's sister, had a Latin dance routine the following season, Im pretty sure it wasn't the mambo but it was still good. old SYTYCD was really amazing.

In an interview a few years later, Benji told that Alex de Silva left them alone with half of their routine and was little help overall. The fact that both their Mambo and their Salsa routine have Benji/Heidi signature-moves in them kinda proves that.

Besides, this dance was half choreographed by the pair since Alex buggered off half way through and didn't help them.

@@derikshopinski5651 his leaving means that the dance they did wouldn't even have happened if she wasn't there to do choreograph. And again, I never said he wasn't an amazing dancer. I said that he could look more amazing because he had a great partner. Whatever your profession, if you have someone that you can completely count on so you don't have to worry about anything and just do your best, it's going to be easier. With pair dancing, if the partner isn't as good, you can't shine. She is the ultimate partner because whomever she is with can do the very best they can without worry. Anyway, you were the one that brought Benji specifically into the conversation out of the blue. I said partners. Plural. So that was everyone she danced with. Her, Travis and Benji and did their best work when they had eachother as partners. Really? Man-splaining. Come on. I wasn't explaining how partners work. Geez. Did you even read my comment before replying? I said having a good partner means you can do your best. I didn't explain the definition of partnership to you.

Out of the blue? It’s literally a video of him and Heidi. And hes every bit the choreographer she is. There’s so much if his signature work in this one piece. And I do know what I’m talking about since I’ve been in the industry for 30+ years as a dancer, teacher and choreographer, even taking classes from Benji and his sister Lacey.

It is the tiny things that make this perfect. 1:52 Heidi waits patiently for Benji to initiate connection. Very hard to stop yourself from anticipating next step and rush ahead. Tiny, I said, but example of professionalism in partner dancing.

It's also the fact that the majority of the dancers were older than 18 in earlier seasons. I've been watching the show since season 2, and I feel like it's shifted from mature dancers to... early bloomers of sorts. They're all technically brilliant, but recently, there isn't that maturity in performances anymore.

The best ballroom dance on SYTYCD in any season. Just brilliant technique plus outstanding performance skills. I miss seeing any dancers in following seasons who could do ballroom with this amount of rhythm and style (and also were great at other styles: Heidi w/Travis in the bench dance; Heidi & Benji in Broadway; both in contemporary). Too much emphasis in Ssn 9 ff on crump, animation, hip-hop; and not even having those dancers attempt ballroom at all.
