I got mine 2 years ago for $95, and this isn't required, but for peak performance, I recommend glued him to only stay in sahelanthropus mode, especially if you are getting a rex. Painting it is definitly a necessity, and I recommend painting the skull on because the waterslide is pretty brittle. I have always been a fan of metal gear WAY before gundam, and if MGSV blew you away as much as it did me, then the negatives of this kit are nullified with the shear magnitude of the intensity and mystery the game provided for him, and the size and overall surface detail of the model

Arseny Lee I used masking tape and cut shapes out for the nostrils, for the outline I just eyeballed it and for the lines on the mouth I scraped the wet paint away with a toothpick, I suppose for best results you can use masking tape for the entire silhouette of the skull

Waterslides over details are easily remedied with a gentle cut from your hobby knife, I can't imagine it being easier to hand paint the form of that skull in any world.

I really like the design of the kit, and the construction was really unique compared to Gunpla. That being said, I had a miserable time building mine. A lot of fitments were tight, so with the intent of painting I started trimming pegs and eventually just ended up trimming everything so it took a lot of time. All that made its stability even worse; nearly lost the "toes" a couple times. I might paint it, maybe. Though, I can't complain much about the price: HLJ had it on sale for $95CDN.

You don’t necessarily need to use glue. But if you do want to glue some of the small non-moving parts then I would recommend Tamiya Extra-Thin Cement

I can see how you think that. They do have the same head, but that is because they are based on the original Metal Gear blueprints made by Granin from MGS3. There are many more reasons that they cannot be the same. Sahelanthropus can only accommodate a child pilot, but Rex is piloted by adults. the two Metal Gears use armor comprised of completely different metals. Rex does not have a transformation system or archaea blades. Lastly, Ocelot steals Ray in MGS2, not Rex.
