What is a great finch that will go great outside that loves little flys. I have a ton in my outdoor aviary and I feel like they would love them

if melanogaster fruitflies, almost any waxbill would be happy. if hydei, then larger finches. if musca domestica (miniature house fly)- I don’t know any finch that would eat adult flies, but if they can get to larvae- almost any will eat happily. Some species are more insectivorous than others, may also consider softbills. Also check temperatures against native temp range for the species and check temperament mix with the birds you already keep.

Aloha from Hawaii 🌺 Have you ever worked with Common Waxbill/St. Helena waxbills? If not, would you consider that? Just out of curiosity.

Aloha, yes I did keep them in college, wonderful little waxbills! The only reason I don’t keep them is they breed a little too readily and can get hard to manage with limited space.

@@Echosaviary oh okay. Perhaps that’s why they’re so plentiful in Hawaii. I don’t breed nor keep them since I’ve got lots of them visiting my yard daily.

Good morning! Have you ever struggled with mice getting into your bird enclosures? I have two indoor fancy pigeons whom I adore, but lately I have been hearing a mouse in their condo. I am now pulling up all of the seed and vacuuming around their home before I tuck them in for their sleep. I have noticed that since doing this the mouse are no longer interested. Just wondering if you are on the struggle bus wwith this issue as well.

I did get mice into the aviary once after a stupid mistake on my part (video somewhere about it). mice are devastating to finches and it was not good. other than that, the aviary was built like a fortress to prevent that happening.
