@@om.gembul First, they need something to deflect the jetwash from planes taking off (runways can be used in either direction). Otherwise, nearby roads and buildings can be hit with winds strong enough to flip a car over. In airports near cities, It's also done to protect the infrastructure. In other similar runway overrun incidents, planes have gone off the airport killing not only the people on the plane, but also people in cars and buildings that the plane strikes. I dunno what lies beyond the wall at this airport though.

Why are people even blaming the wall at the end of a runway more than 3 km long, when (i) the landing gears didn't drop, (ii) the flaps were not working? This doesn't sound like the result of a bird strike to me, even if there really was one. There has to be a lot more that will hopefully be revealed at the end of the investigation.

Obviously standard operating protocols and pilot checklists have obliterated the ability for pilots to think and make logical decisions- 1) fuel should have been dumped knowing that it's going to be a belly landing 2) why weren't the airbrakes used to assist in slowing the plane 3) the reverse thrust doesn't seem to be switched on on the engines as the plane seems to be powering forward with the front still lifted up.
@jonh87918 күн бұрын
Quite the contrary. SOPs and checklists are there to assist logical decision making in emergencies. Also 1) the 737 doesn't have a fuel dump system. 2) plane had slowed considerably during descent, and 3) reverse thrust is not going to work when engine nacelles are in contact with the ground
