17c Stabilize Module - Borders [Mocha Essentials]

Stabilized footage will have some blank areas that need to be filled in somehow. This tutorial shows some of the options you have with Mocha, including auto scaling, custom fixed frames and Auto Fill. We look at the options these give us, and discuss which is the correct one for different scenarios.
When we have completed this section, you will understand what the Stabilize module can give you, and which tools you should use for different shots.

Hi..excellent class. i need help..what method should i use to keep centered a person that is walking away in front of the camera as im following him..im only seeing the back of the person from head to feet, but the background is shaky, i should have walked like ninja...but i dont want to throw away the footage

Ninja walking and/or some form of practical stabilization for example a gimbal, is the best way to shoot these. If you want to do something with the footage you'll have to make some compromises. Stabilize focused on the person and the background will be more unsteady. Stabilize by tracking the background will help smooth that out, but foreground elements may move more. See if one of those helps out, but a reshoot may be necessary.

This is a good use of Mocha. Start with the earlier parts of this course, 17a and 17b : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXebaaWKqpafq5Y These will give you an idea of how to get started. You will want to track your trees to stabilize around them. With hyperlapses, it is usually best to only stabilize Position first. Make the shape very loose and you should get a good starting result. It will likely need some experimentation to get the perfect settings though. Hope that helps!

Those are usually done in the same way. Track an element that you want to stay as the focus. Bigger areas are best to get a better idea of the average movement. Alternative, sample several smaller areas in different part of the screen. Be aware, that once stabilized things like motion blur are going to be really evident if you completely lockdown the image.
