Always enjoy your videos. The funny thing is that all those plants, or at least 99% of them, are plants that I use in my Prairie Garden.

Very interesting video Alexandra. Thank you so much! I enjoyed it! I have tried to grow some of these flowers though we are not near the shore. It was very nice to see this beach town and all the colors. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and inform us of these plants ❤️

BTW Good seaside garden plants are also salt-tolerant. Knowing which plants can take salt is especially useful for garden beds along or near roads, such as the front of your house --- particularly in colder climates where the roads are salted. And, of course, in any climate - just dogs stopping by... :)
@TheMiddlesizedGarden

Yes, salt is an issue too, and good point about when roads get heavily salted. Thank you.

@TheMiddlesizedGarden

Yes, I believe they are. It might slightly depend on your soil, but a packet of poppy seeds isn't expensive so give them a try. A lovely look.

Hello Alexandra, you look great, love that color on you, Thank you for another inspiring and informative video. What is the tan colored grass paired with the verbena? That is a fantastic combo. If the grass is cold hardy enough for my U.S. mid-western zone 6 region, I'm borrowing the idea to replace my front lawn. I understand the verbena is a USDA zone 7, but I can substitute an eryngium or Sanguisorba 'Chocolate Tip' for the structure against that mesmerizing grass.

Thank you! I don't seem to have a name for that grass, but it was at the Beth Chatto Gardens and you may find its name or something suitable and like it, on their website: www.bethchatto.co.uk/shop-plants.htm

That's a good suggestion and thank you. It's a bit difficult as these videos are seen all over the world, while the seed companies are quite specific to each country. But I'll have a think about how to help people choose and find seed companies!

They're called 'beach huts'. Many beaches around Britain have these colourful huts, and you're not supposed to sleep in them, although a few do have planning permission for sleepovers. They're wonderfully basic inside but really a great place to shelter from the weather and make a cup of tea.

Can I train any of these to go over my pergola from a planter?
@TheMiddlesizedGarden
@TheMiddlesizedGarden 3 жыл бұрын
The one problem with training a climbing plant from a planter or pot is that the planter restricts the root size, which ultimately restricts the size of the climbing plant. So you're unlikely to get very vigorous coverage of a pergola if the plants are in pots. But, on the other hand, almost any plant will grow in a pot, provided you give it regular fertiliser and watering, so if you don't want a very vigorous or lush climbing effect, then the pots should be OK.

We live by the beach (though our back garden is sheltered by the house). We’re already planning the side return to be a seashell mulch, seaside planting area. Does anyone have advice for planting in part shade or full shade patches? I’ll just see if I can find the list of plants I’m planning on using.
