"Identity element can never be generator" is not always true. A trivial subgroup is a group that has only identity element in it. Since the identity element is the only element in the trivial subgroup, it generates all the elements of the subgroup (which is just itself). So identity element is the generator here.

Dear @harshil, what sir is trying to say is that the identity element cannot generate the entire group (unless the group only consists of the identity element), it can be considered a generator for trivial subgroups, which only contain the identity element. Here in this video he's not talking about trivial subgroups.

But I am just making a point that if such question is asked in exam without any specification than we have to consider trivial subgroups and in that case answer will be False. Because students will just cram that "Identity element can never be generator" and forget that there is only one exception to it, as it happened with me as well. Instead sir should have made following statement --> " Identity element can never be generator for group of order greater than or equal to 2 ". Just an honest feedback. Overall great video.
